I'll assume most folks who use braid also use fluero leaders for inshore fishing regardless if free lining or under a cork. What lb fluero leader is optimal? 15? 20? 25?

I'm about to spool up with 20lb power pro and have always used mono b/c I fish with pops 80% of the time and he prefers mono. Didn't know if there is any difference in leaders for mono vs braid.

Fluoro is more invisible in the water and not as flexible. Only difference really.

Check out the Yozuri hybrid. Great line with the benefits of both mono and fluoro.

20 lb flouro

I use a leader unless I'm tied to a cork

I always use 20lb mono.
If it gets frayed you don't have to worry about it.

Make sure you tie a blood knot

I like my leader to be a little lighter than my main line.

Why 20# PP? If it's not too late, I would go with 30#, especially if on a baitcaster. The bigger the diameter braid will dig less and will result in fewer backlashes. If using it on spinning gear, this is not much of a concern, but wind knots do become a concern with the small diameter lines.

As far as leaders are concerned, 20# fluoro is perfect and what I use in almost all applications. 25# fluoro is noticeably stiffer in my experience.

ETA: I always use a uni to uni knot as my braid to mono connection and it has yet to fail in over 7 years of fishing.

30lb braid with 20lb flouro

20lb braid with 15lb flouro

join with either double uni, improved albright
...or FG / sebile knot if your really good at knots.

I overlay the braid and flouro a couple inches, and use an overhand knot, but pass through twice with each, not once.

The only reason I use it inshore is if I'm around a lot of structure to get hung.

But I fish at least 30 lb. braid.

I;ve never fished with braid and just got some after using it last week. Any issue with tying the braid straight to the hook/lure?

Pretty much that but if I'm fishing open water I don't use a leader. I'll even use a tandem rig made from braid if fishing reefs or the surf.

Make 1 extra run through the eye of the hook if you use a uni or clinch knot.

In stained or muddy water I find it makes no difference if I tie direct. In clear water, it definitely makes a difference.

I always use a Palomar to terminal tackle but those work as well. Palomars are just so easy with braid.

Nope. When you get a twist from a couple fish I just hold the long one and they fix themselves.

On another note, I have never understood the tangle complaint with braid. I find a backlash in braid almost always comes out quick.

Now if you are in a frenzy of shite offshore all lines get hairy.

ETA: I have had a couple gafftops frick up a braid tandem more than once. But they frick up every tandem.

Yeah it depends on if I know what I'm targeting. If specks I tie a leader, if chasing reds, I go straight power pro.

I rarely use a leader, usually just go straight braid to hook. I have never had any problems.

This. If you fish SELA, you don't have to worry about clear water where the fish can see the line .
