Took a vine down in front of my house about a week ago and apparently wasn't careful enough. This shite sucks. I've tried everything in the damn book to relieve the itch but I guess I'll just have to give it time.

Wait till it is weeping and itching unbearably. Then, get that shower going really hot...

I'm not kidding you. I was covered in it once (helped some woman who injured herself driving her car off the road - pretty sure she was drunk). It got to this point where it was weeping and the itch was unbearable. I turned the shower head on the hardest stream possible. I got the water going really, really hot and put it on my legs.

I almost fainted from the euphoria.

Some of it is already weeping and I've done that exact thing . But it's still spreading some so not all of it is in the same stage. But when I got that hot water going it was wayyyyy hotter than I normally have it but it felt great.

Life's simple pleasures.

Have you tried calamine lotion?

I would scratch mine and hit it hard with the rubbing alcohol. It'd draw it out and kill it. the heat and sting from the alcohol sure feels good.

way back when I was a kid, we burned it in the fireplace. got it from head to toe, talk about one miserable experience. no gimmicks to fix that.

I think I might have got it once or twice as a kid. It just does nothing now, but my oldest son gets it so bad the last time he had it he missed an entire week of school because it was all over his palms.

There's nothing to kill.

It's an inflammatory reaction in the skin so the alcohol would only serve to dry it out. Usually topical steroid is the best bet but you have to wait it out

Yeah I have calamine. I have Benadryl. I've used baking soda, alcohol and vinegar. I feel like I've done it all at this point. I don't think I've ever gotten the rash before so it's all new to me.

I get it every year cleaning up woods before the season. Besides a shot knocking it out over a few days, the best relief I figured out was pouring a brine solution on it. I'll boil a big pot of water and slowly stir in a jar of salt until it stops dissolving. As soon as it's safe I'll pour it over the rash. shite feels so damn good and I find it soothes the itch better than just water. Worth a shot.

You coming in here with all these facts and stuff screwing up the fun.

I was enjoying reading the remedies and waiting on someone to tell OP to try peanut butter, mayo and honey or some crap just to mess with him.

But naw, doc mcstuffins had to ruin it for us

get some 97% rubbing alcohol and it burns like hell on any open blisters but it kills the exposed liquids and soaks in and helps dry up and kill the rash.

just keep putting it on, I put it in a spray bottle and when it starts itching I spray it, if it gets bad I slap it, not scratch it, because scratching just spreads it more.

calamine lotion just makes a mess and other them making you look like a freak I don't think it does very much other then "slightly" reduce the itching

been highly allergic to it all my life and above all else wear gloves to go pee, you DO NOT want that fun to have it down there

You have a long time before the reaction starts giving you problems. If you think you have been exposed, simply wash with a degreaser like dawn dish soap. Throw the rag away when you're done with your shower.

so much mis-information

clean area thoroughly with dawn dish soap or some of the over the counter poison ivy cleaners, and once the urshoil (the oil from the plant that gets on the skin and causes the reaction) is gone you just treat the symptoms with benedryl (oral and topical) cortisone cream, etc, if it gets too bad go to md and they will either give you a steroid shot or dose pack, but the fluid that seeps from the blisters is NOT poison ivy, it is your bodies reaction to it and that fluid will not spread the rash

It doesn't spread.

The reaction is delayed in some areas. Places where you have had it before will react sooner.

Go get a cortisone shot at an urgent care. It's the only thing that will help. Drug stores have something called zanafel. Buy the tube and it helps dry it out, its $40 per tube and you use it in the shower.

I can't even look at it without getting it. Steroid shot and a shite ton of calamine lotion are the only thing that can save me.

One more thing.... if you think you are going to be working around it wear a long sleeve shirt, pants and gloves. As soon as you are done take that off and wash with soap. Dawn will work. It is more important to scrub than anything. Like take your skin off type scrubbing. You need to get the oils off your skin and the scrubbing is what works best.

It worked for me the last time I was around it and the time before that I had it hang around for like 6 weeks. Was fricking terrible

Gojo or Lava soap are what I use, I used to use the Technu stuff but its ridiculously expensive to use every time you go to the camp or

Its an oil, if you have motor oil or bacon grease on your hands and try to wash it off with some dawn it turns into a coagulated mess, get something with some grit to it to help break it up.
