Yes, I know this comes up pretty frequently. Sue me. Yeah, I know I should be doing all the work myself. Shut up. There are so many companies out there and I seem to be snakebit when I hire someone and end up with subpar results.

Looking for someone to do a few things. Install a couple of big palm trees, a few shrubs and I'd also like to get a quote on a basic landscape lighting system. Nothing fancy. Just basic stuff. 6 lights in all.

I tried installing one using the Malibu lights. I know they're kind of cheap, but I would have been happy to get just a couple of years out of them, but I can't even get that lucky. I installed the lights a couple of months ago and have already had to replace 4 of the lights. The bulbs aren't burned out. It's not the wiring or the transformer. They just go out randomly. I know several people who have Malibu lights and their's are just fine. Again, snakebit.

90% of the time it's the connector.

Go on. You mean the connector itself goes bad?

If it's the type you lay the wire in and compress between two covers with prongs that puncture the wire, no they don't go bad quickly. It's usually that you didn't hit the wire at the middle. It's work for a while but build up corrosion and quit. Did you use the goop that come with it?

Wish I'd have thought of that.

Yes, it's the quick connector type. No goop came with it. However, they should work longer than a week. And I also tried connecting it to the wire again but it absolutely will not light up again. I close them tight with channel locks and wrap with duct tape.

Do any lights work at all?

Yes. All other lights work. One or two will go out on their own.

Thanks. Any other suggestions from anyone? Bueller?

Also, I just got off the phone with Malibu and they gave me a suggestion. Total wattage doesn't exceed the transformer, but if it's close like mine is, it can cause a light to go out here and there. I'll take a light off the line.

Are you African American? Do you have a pool? If 'no' to both of these don't plant palm trees.
