Will be heading to the south end of Lake Verret next weekend. How is the sacalait bite right now? Have they turned on yet? Any tips?
Heading out there for a weekend of perch jerking and some bass fishing.

quote:I've never fished for them there before, but in two of my spots, the males are turning black and are tight to the trees. I'd hit shallow trees with jig or shiner under corks until I figured what types they are on. I caught 7 yesterday from the bank in my work clothes after a deposition 5 on outside large trees, and two on shallow small ones.

I went last weekend. Launched out of Stephensville(Doirons landing) and fished the channels in between Grassy Lake and Lake Palourde. We jigged with powerbait and grass shrimp in between 1' and 3' deep along the banks. The sac's were hit and miss but we caught a whole mess of chinquapin and bream. The sac's we did catch were descent sized but were a lot further off the bank than we were used to. They would hit and quit while we were reeling in. Sometimes just a few feet off the boat.
Hope this helps.
eta: It was my first trip on this side of the lake and my fishing partner is a lifelong fisherman in the area.

Thanks. That may be one of our options. We can run there from the camp

even after the rain last Friday, the water was still pretty clear back there. I used a blue and white tube jig with my powerbait!

That's always my old faithful in verret.
If you run across to the crackhead, you aughta jerk some perch about a foot under. Black and chartreuse or blue and white tube jig.
Back around stepehnsville, run a light color trick worm. That's all bass are biting on.

Any word on if the blue cats made their way to the cypress trees yet? My dad wants me to take him.

Father in law just got a new boat and wants to try for some sacalait around the Lake Verret area. Are they moving towards the canals yet or still catching them in the lake?
