That was a couple weeks ago, but it looked good.

ETA: My bad, I thought you asked what the water looked like. There's no current out there.

Here's a pic I took at the launch, you can see the concrete pretty clear

What a pretty looking little area. How do I get to this place? Sounds like a great place to go fish if your goal is to catch numbers.

So, where do you check in if you are coming from I-10?

There's a check in station on 975 not far north of I-10

Thanks. This place looks like a great place to spend a half of a day.

I've been talking with my brother in law (he posts here on rare occasions). We both want to take the kayaks out to some of these spots. Even if we don't catch much, it's really beautiful areas from all I'm told and all of the pictures I've seen.

re: Lafayette Area Fishing (Public Launches, Bayous, and Lakes)
I fished Big Alabama this past Saturday. Caught just a few small ones, wasn't great, pretty slow. Water around the boat launch was ok, but then turned into toilet water about 1/2 mile down and didn't clear up until I ran way up the bayou.

Even in the clearer water, very little action. Lots of cover though, looks like it could be a really nice place to catch when conditions are right for the area. Not sure what those conditions are.

Boat launch is nice, I didn't check in, we just rolled up and launched and went fishin. Didn't know anything about a self check-in. I launched at Sherburne. The other launch closer to I-10 would've been a better choice for water clarity for sure.

I'm sure many people do that. And 9 out of 10 times you can probably get away with that. Just know that you're supposed to.

Are there any restrictions? Can you run wide open? Any boat bombs in the middle to kill me?

Yeah, better to just fill out the self clearing permit.

I've been told that Little Alabama is full of sunken trees and laydowns. So you probably wouldn't want to run in there. I don't know about Big Alabama. I would err on the side of caution first trip out.

re: Lafayette Area Fishing (Public Launches, Bayous, and Lakes)
I ran pretty open, slowing only for fisherman and areas where I'd see a lay down or something sticking far out into the canal that I thought looked suspicious. I idled under some little ATV bridge or footbridge and hit something under there. Pretty narrow pass through, wouldn't have hit that at full speed anyway.

I've never fished Little Alabama, but I've never hit anything in Big Alabama. You should be fine if you stay towards the middle.

There aren't any fish in any waters mentioned in this thread. Please try saltwater instead.
