Lab may be going in heat?

My female is almost 9 months old. Has been acting weird when working the last 3 days. Very tentative behavior and seems nervous around my male.
Anyone have a female and think she could be showing early signs of going in heat?
I've also recently introduced her to the underground fence shock collar. Thought maybe that was it. Her drive seems to be low right now. Very sharp change

Check her. See if she is swollen. If not, then I would think its the fence.

Yea can't tell if it's swollen or just normal cause I don't check out her vulva everyday.
She has been wore slap out too probably from playing all day. I need to to just give her time.
Don't want her getting knocked up though.

Mine got preggo young from a-hole male from around hood coming around and literally pushed his way through a chain link fence kennel. It was prolly first time she was In heat too

Just weird how she went from doing great with bumpers to timid and somewhat disinterested in just a few days.
Also went from jumping and playing with my male dog to cowering if he is in between her and kennel. Also super tired right now but that's from heat and playing in yard vs being in a pin all day I'm sure.
Need to know quick if she is in heat though so I can get her away from my male

Hard to say but you should be able to look at her and tell. I will say i have seen more than one retriever ruined by way of electric fence. Be careful with it.

Yeah I don't look at my females either, but for me I can just tell it looks abnormally larger. No biggie if you can't tell though. Watch her carefully. I'd check her with a clean paper towel each day. If she starts any bleeding she'll be ready to breed after about 10 days. We do 11-13 days, but I don't wanna be wrong and safe is better than sorry. So make sure she is seperated completely and securely if she does go into heat especially after the 10 days. I'd keep her seperated until day 21 just to be sure. Have her fixed if you don't want puppies and I wouldn't breed on her first heat anyways.
If its not heat then are you sure your male didn't attack her? She might have pissed him off and now she's scared of him.
An e collar of any kind can make a dog totally insecure. With it being a fence she may not understand why she's getting a correction. Especially if you are using an e collar to train her in addition to confine her. So she could be feeling really insecure and nervous to do anything that might result in a shock. To me it's a bad idea to use an e collar for more than one application, especially on an intelligent dog who really wants to please. Good luck and let us know what was the problem if you figure it out.

Not using the ecollar to train her right now. And when I was I didn't use the shock. I used vibration to get her attention.
The underground fence has worked well with all my dogs as the collar beeps over and over before it shocks. My male lab knows when the battery cause dead cause he will test the beeping and when it doesn't beep after a day he bolts for it.
Male my have finally kicked her arse. She has been biting his neck and tearing at him ever since she was a puppy. He hasn't retaliated yet.
Thanks for the information on number of days separated.
I plan to breed her with my male next year as she is brilliant and he is pretty good as well.

It sounds like you really suck at building fences!

Sounds like a normal kennel with no boundary fence if I had to take a WAG.
To the OP, is the male going ape shite retarded? That's usually the ones that change attitudes when they are around a bitch in heat.

He is always ape shite retarded. Just has an awesome nose
Might be shock collar fatigue. Going to give her a couple days off then take her to my parents and work her

It sounds like a shitty kennel. Do you have any idea how easy it is to build a solid kennel?

Do you know how persistent a male dog is to try to get his dick wet??

We had a male who tried to chew through a chain link fence to get at a female. This same male got out of his yard and showed up at a neighbor two miles a way with a female in heat. Our current male loses complete interest in food or anything else if a female in heat is anywhere around. He just paces back and forth along the fence.

Had a friend who found a male digging a tunnel under his concrete kennel to get to his female. Turned out he dug his own grave. They are VERY persistent.
