Despite rampant rumors to the contrary, State Police and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries have not been vigorously enforcing a law that requires boaters to get their trailers inspected

quote:

"I can't find anybody who wrote a ticket at the Bonnabel Boat Launch," said Capt. Doug Cain, public affairs commander for the Louisiana State Police. "This started blowing up about 4 weeks ago.

Neither is the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, according to Col. Jeff Mayne.

"It's not the case. I've heard it; it's all over the place, but it's not us who's been enforcing that," he said. "I don't know of anybody who got a ticket. I heard that 300 people got tickets, and they were all from us

NOLA.COM OUTDOORS ARTICLE

quote:

Louisiana law requires that "every motor vehicle, low-speed vehicle, trailer, semitrailer and pole trailer registered in this state shall bear a valid safety inspection certificate issued in the state of Louisiana."

Although it is in fact required by law, few boaters actually get their trailers inspected.

So the law spreads the rumors therefore making everyone panic and pay for stickers. No tickets written (yet) and the law looks like good guys for not writing any tickets but yet still make money off the stickers
