I've got spring fever and have been watching fishing youtube videos, KVD sales his signature series baits but admits he changes the hooks out.

Why not put the hooks in as manufactured ?

Cost would be the obvious answer but it seems shitty marketing to sale a product who's spoke person says it needs modification to be 100% effective.

Why sell one product when you can sell two?

Idk why they don't just put the triple grips on to begin with, maybe Strike King has a deal with somebody besides Mustad. But I know I stay stocked up with #4 and #2 triple grips and change them out on every crankbait I throw. They definitely help with lost fish.

Remember those Excalibur rotating trebles? No idea if still made, but those really transformed Rattle Traps.

Yeah I remember those, but I haven't seen them in forever. Traps come stock with the triple grips now.

Yeah I stay stocked up on triple grips also. Noticed a lot better hookups, fewer lost fish, and fewer bent hooks.

Don't know why they can't sell them with either hooks. Sell the crankbaits with the regular hooks, and for a little more money you can get them with the triple grips already on them. Call them the "KVD elite" crankbaits or something.

I agree...spokesman should stand behind the self-endorsed product. I'm sure people would respect the fact that it has higher quality hooks and pay an extra $1 for it.

I've never changed hooks on crankbaits.

I change the hooks on most but not all of my squarebills. The stock trebles on a KVD squarebill will bend on a decent fish so I always change those and sometimes change the back one to a size 2. But I like some of the KVD colors so I buy the bait + hooks.

Some guys even change out between triple grips and round bends depending on whether the bass are just swiping at the bait or eating it.

My question is why do they sell triple grips 11 to a pack?

Please use the words sell and sale properly. I see this in so many ads and write ups. It's easy. One sells an item. An item is for sale. Thank me later.

Same reason hot dogs come in packs of 10 but buns come in packs of 8.

I have been moving to the "in line single" hooks for all my crankbaits. Have not noticed any lack of hookups, or more misses. We catch a lot of over slot fish and it is just hell on a big one to get those trebles out of the gut if they inhale it. Pic below XR10, XR-12, and the Crystal 90. The Crystal has been renamed to "foggy". It's been beat the hell up but still catches fish. [/img]

I have changed out treble hooks for years on all baits. One to two sizes up depending on action, and most of the time go to a red hook or a blue hook. rarely go back with a silver/ chrome hook

I changed out trap hooks to triple grips for as long as I can remember but I haven't had too much problem with the hooks on the 1.5 and 2.5 except that they will eventually weaken and break (especially if you get into a school of big whites). Triple grips are by far the best choice for replacement trebles.

Listening to KVD on one of the outdoor channels- he stated he was big on trailer hooks- another hook placed on the original hook of the lure. He stated he has caught many big bass by foul hooking them. Any of you guys do this?

Because he wants to stay competitive in the market and realizes that he probably can't do that if he uses top of the line hooks.

Probably talking about in spinnerbaits, and yes, I don't throw a spinnerbait without a trailer hook.

Some hard baits use three trebles.
