Posted by Rustontiger43 on 12/5/13 at 9:42 am00
I have a small scratch on the frame. how can I repair this or would I need to send back to Kimber for refinishing?

This.
If it was caused by you, you can forget it.
If you bought it factory new and it was scratched, they might do something. But probably not.
I like scratches on my guns. It shows they get used. I won't ever own a safe queen unless it is a family heirloom.

well best thing about an aluminum frame is you can paint it, so go get some touch up paint and fix it.

I saw something on You tube called the idiot scratch prevention tool. Anybody seen that and know where to get one? I am new to 1911s and would like to prevent that.

You don't really need a tool once you get the feel for installing the slide stop. It really isn't that hard to do correctly once you get the feel for it.
I normally put the slide stop shaft in the frame and position the stop so that it is almost in the correct position (while keeping the slide stop from touching the frame). Then I sort of 'roll' it in and up so that it positions itself correctly with the plunger spring.

How deep is it. You may be able to polish it out. Just take your time when reassembling next time.

OK, good.
Try some automotive compound on it. Something like Mag Wheel polish, Scratch-X, or something. If it's really deep, it probably won't come out.

That appears to be a scratch on a teflon / anodized aluminum frame. You will not be able to repair that yourself. Anything you do will make it worse.
Back to Kimber if it bothers you.
