Robert Field makes some pretty damn good videos, the canoe trip he took in New York is a pretty good watch too. I don't know what his job is but I want it.

that trip looks miserable in the sleet and snow. I went steelhead fishing a bunch around Erie and its was not really my cup of tea. until you hook one then its on

I always enjoy watching his videos, I really want to make the trip to the Los Buzos Resort that he promotes in Panama.

awesome footage. have you done Devils river?
which would be best for a first trip? I have some experience whitewater rafting and kayaking so I know my limits in that regard

this was my first kayak trip. I have fished out of a yak on a handful of occasions before this and actually borrowed a kayak for this trip. Moken feel free 14
I got dumped twice on the trip in rapids. There were 2 rapids we roped our kayaks down due to flow and potential danger. 1 of which some people rope down some ride. In retrospect I should have tried it. 1 only suicidal boaters attempt.
The devils had smallmouth supposedly and is a shorter trip. I want to do it next.

we have a thread on it I started about a month ago. lots of OBers were interested. maybe late fall we can plan something to devils. no smallies on the pecos? I fished exclusively for them in PA. so much fun on light tackle

Curious, but what all is involved in a trip like that? Gear needed/not needed? It is a guided thing?

I would be game for a short trip to the devils. No smallies on the Pecos. Lots largemouth with the largest landed at 2.5 lbs and the largest hooked right around 4 lbs, many short nose gar, grass carp, some drum, some channel cats, quite a few green sunfish, bluegill, goggle-eye, and other small sunfish that Texans all call "perch", and after you cross the weir dam some white bass and hybrid stripers.
Considering you do get quite wet, may roll your kayak, have to pull/wade a good portion of the river, and late fall is football, hunting, and the beginning of the rainy season, it may be better to plan a trip next spring. Late summer early fall would be possible but night time temps in the 80s are gonna suck for trying to sleep.

minimum needed gear
durable yak
paddle with an extra paddle for every 2 boats
fishing rods (at least 2 per boat) we brought 3-4 each.
2 man tent, sleeping bag, mattress
a high volume water filter and Nalgene bottles
food and cookware to be able to cook fish
2 ways to start fire on every boat
100 ft of good rope
first aid kit
kayak repair kit including a way to plastic weld
A good river map
Sat phone and GPS
1 set of wet clothes, 1 set dry clothes, and lots of dry bags.
We were unguided.
We had 6 guys
There is a guy you can arrange to pick up your truck when you put in at Pandle and drive it to the boat ramp on the Rio Grande the day you take out.
You can also arrange for someone with a motorized boat to pick you up and tow out the kayaks on last leg of trip since the river gets shallow, straight, and VERY hard to paddle due to nearly sustained 20+ mph head winds.
