I had no doubt in my mind this man was dead when I started reading the article. Can't believe he was so pissed he paddled back to the launch

could hear a big engine coming his way, but due to dense fog, couldn’t tell from what direction the boat was approaching

failure to display the light he had on board his kayak
dumb arse
then again I'm not sure they would have seen it through the fog.

When I lived in southern CA, there was a LCAC unit stationed at Camp Pendleton (Motto painted on the side of their building: No Beach Out Of Reach). Driving south on I-5, the beach was only about 150 yards away in some places. You could hear those beasts from the freeway at 70mph with the radio playing!

Which means you shouldn't be out there at all in a vessel without a significant radar signature.

pretty sure those LED kayak lights would have made no difference. Dude is lucky to be alive.

did the driver of big boat not get in trouble? This is like an 18 wheeler mowing down a motorcycle in front of him in the fog driving 65 miles an hour on the interstate and all they did was cite the biker for his tail lights out.

Maybe a hand held battery operated high lumen LED light, to point at the big noisy thing bearing down on you?

yeah cause that big boat at 35 miles an hour can stop on a dime when it realized at 30 yards it was gonna roll him
Posted on 5/5/15 at 10:42 am to Chad504boy
I would assume the glow of 1000 lumens and the noise of that massive thing would both reach beyond 30 yards.

Yeah I just don't think a boat has a right to mow anyone down regardless of conditions that was wreck less

No word on whether Goff managed to bag the mackerel he had just landed before the landing craft interrupted his fishing.
This would be important to know

I keep looking at the picture and the hover skirt and imagine it feeling like getting demolished by this.

When you go out in a tiny "boat" with no radar signature and no light in the fog in an area where other boat traffic is likely, you are a complete moron.
When you ride a bicycle down a busy and narrow city street with buses, cars parked on either side and lots of cross traffic, Magazine St. for example, you too are a complete moron.
Similar situations where people put themselves in harms way because they're green or hip or as I call it, poor, then they blame everyone else when their stupid arse gets hurt. Guys in john boats pull that crap too, anchoring up in a busy channel, I never feel sorry for morons, and this dude is a moron.
