Just got this text from my lessor (Update in OP)

EDIT FOR UPDATE: So I played detective today asking a lot of locals in the Gueydan area about this particular property and this lessor. Apparently he may have been involved in some kind of accident in work but no one can confirm it.
Anyway, a few names and number ultimately lead to the infamous Doug Sonier of Doug's Hunting Lodge. Apparently the guy we were dealing with did not lease directly from the land owners like he told us but leased from Doug. I spoke with him directly, and according to Doug this guy never paid him for the lease this year. So he told me if I want the blind, it's mine.
Mike, if you're reading this, I win you asshat.

That might help you a few seasons from now. I do not know Mike or his role in this. Was he in the property with the OP?
Regardless, it sucks for everybody. Landowner included. Mike sounds like a problem.

what are the terms of the temporary agreement? with no permanent lease in writing you are gonna be screwed with little or no recourse.

That's no reason to want to cancel a lease on somebody. There is more to the story here. I'm thinking someone with more sway than you wants to hunt this property.

Basically how he screwed us. Strung us along for a month with no permanent lease. Didn't answer phone calls or texts. Then we get that text from his brother today.
