Jeep "death wobble"- I think I've got it. UPDATE pg 2

Vehicle shakes violently when I drive over any decent bump in the road going 20+.
I have to pull over most of the time and it's a pretty freaky deal. Have heard an alignment will not help, and that's what I figured was the deal since I like to curb hop and what not. Anyone got any suggestions?
Eta: it's basically bump steer on steroids.

steering box, loose lug nuts?
eta: do you have a lift and were all the necessary alignment precautions taken with castor and steering arm adjustment?

I've checked just about everything including my lift components and everything seems to be solid.

Mine did this when I put 33x12.50's on a 15x10 inch wheel. It was previously on 31x10.50's on 15x8 wheel with no lift... no problems.
I had to have it aligned damn near every time I rotated the tires.
I just thought it was a case of "the ride goes to shite when you lift one...".
Eta: it would last about 5K miles before it started doing it again. I bet there was 5 lbs. of lead on each wheel.

do you have a body or suspension lift?

Have you checked the wheel bearings? Has anything recently occurred like you went wheeling and rubbed a rock? Any new mods to suddenly cause it?

you sure it wasn't because I wrecked it?

This.

to check them, jack up the tire. grab the tire at 12 and 6 o'clock and move back and forth. then grab at 3 and 9 and move back and forth. If you have play in either directions, then you may have worn bearings.

yeah but it may also be a tire that is out of balance assuming all of his castor is in spec. 90% of these problems are castor related.

Nah, that was just body damage.

I'll ask them about the wheelbearings when I get to the shop. Thanks
As for the lift, Jeep is a unibody, so it's suspension. 2.5" coil spacers in the rear and 3" coils in the front.

Exactly what I put on my jeep. 5K miles later... it started.

Well I've had this setup since November 2006, and it's never been this bad.

Maybe my bearings were already out, or on their way out.
I put 80K miles on my jeep before I lifted it. I went through the wobble realign process about 4 times and traded it in with around 100K on it after a fresh alignment while it was still driving good.

Problem solved. Seriously, at least you aren't replacing the transmission this time around.
