Jackplate Talon Mounting Question

If I'm trying to install the mounting bracket that goes on the outside of the Manual Jack plate. Do I have to support the engine to take out the bolts on the side of the jack plate, if I do it one side at a time?

It's a 200, I got it done with a block of wood underneath. Spent 3 hours getting the brackets on. It's a pretty fun project. But I was nervous about torquing the plate.
It went on well, but the jack plate will not raise evenly. Any Suggestions?
