Cold degrees

Last hunt. Trying to get a doe. Tried yesterday and instead had 4 small bucks hanging out around the corn pile.

How's the hunting up there?

Hunting is good. I had no experience hunting pine plantations before I started hunting here and the more I learn it the more deer I see.

It's crazy that deer are actually so fat and healthy given there is not an equal tonnage of ideal deer browse as compared to ag land and hardwood timber stands.

Yeah that big lease is not too far from where I hunt. They do lots of dog running from what I hear. I've met some of those guys over time and there are nice enough and very apologetic when there dogs get loose and come through our property.

Not me, I didn't go. Way to cold for this old man. Nothing like a free, clean hind quarter and some backstraps coming my way.

Another doe and a sandhill tonight. They were pretty skittish with this wind howling but still saw a few decent bucks.

Yeah, it's legal, sandhill crane. This is the last weekend you can shoot them I'm pretty sure. They're called the "ribeye in the sky" so I'm gonna try to cook some up tonight and see how it is. The deer hate em so I don't mind shooting them.
