Is this normal for a gunsmith? (Hope that's descriptive enough.)

I stopped by a gun shop that is fairly new. His commercial advertises that he is a gunsmith. First off, his prices were outrageous and he was a jerk. Unfortunately though, that's not the part that I find unusual. I asked him if he would be able to do a couple things to my 1911. He looked at me like I had three heads and said "I don't work on 1911's.". Am I crazy to think a gunsmith should be able to do a trigger job on just about anything I lay on the counter?

I would think he should be able to do a trigger job
on a 1911 if hes truely a gunsmith.
All smiths I know could

Not all gunsmiths will do trigger jobs especially on specific guns.
When calling around, you definitely want to ask them if they specifically work on certain guns especially on the trigger.
Most will do basic gunsmithing like sight replacement, replacing springs etc but some items take more skill.
Not sure about 1911s but certified armorers in specific brands will usually do most intermediate to advanced gun work.

I wouldn't leave anything with him. Sounds like he won't be there long.

Personally I'd stay away from a guy like that. He seems to only want to work on what he wants to work on...and probably only got his license to work on his stuff and/or his friends and family's guns.

Why go further after determining this? I'd be curious where he learned his trade; his refusal to work on 1911s is very curious.
