Is there any advantage to purchasing a handgun before the new year?

I'm getting my first handgun as a combined Christmas and birthday present. I know Feinstein's nazi pile of shite is still in its infancy, but I was wondering if there is any real advantage/disadvantage to getting it either before or after the new year.

If it helps, I'm looking pretty hard at getting something akin to an S&W .40 compact.

40 was spawned from scrawny FBI agents that couldn't handle the 10mm

I jest (it is true though) I'm just excited about my 10

No advantage other than you will have a new gun sooner, rather than later.

I like your way of thinking.

shooting at the superdome! A time honored tradition.

Why wait is the question.

Get a 9mm, ammo is cheaper and with a good self defense load you'll get the sameness effect on target as a .40

Didn't realize this board got so much traffic. Thanks for the responses.

I have been a little too busy lately to do research and I don't have a lot of base knowledge. All I have to my name is a Savage. 22 single shot rifle basically made for kids to learn how to shoot. Haven't shot an automatic pistol in years although I used a .38 sw revovler a few yrs ago.

Just turned 21 and will want to have a good pistol on me while I still live in the lsu area. Wanted to make sure I have time to research before I rush into it.

Sha Zam. That word "used" makes it sound like it was "shot" for a reason.

Ideal self defense ammo penetrates, then stops.
FBI standard is 12" minimum penetration, 18" max.

This is one of the best explanations I've seen from the late Paul Gomez:

The FBI was shooting through walls with the 10mm, so they asked S&W to come up with a bullet that was a little less powerful.

I would definitely chose the 40 over the 9mm. The better performing 9mm will be just as expensive as the 40 ammo.
