Horrible troll attempt Chadwick.

Oh, this is the part in time where troll guy is making lots of valid points so we all point and call him a troll and walk away with the tail tucked between your butt cheeks.

unfortunately no, I was too flabbergasted at the entire situation to really come up with some good comebacks

I dont care if someone else fishes my dock, assuming im not fishing from it myself and they arent casting around our raft or under my boat.

Now ive had guys come in hot and start throwing crank baits while the kids are swimming and that will definately get some words said or a beer can thrown at them.

should've answered with " yea I know who you are. You're the guy that built this dock that I'm fishing around. Now go back inside."

Probably the best insult you could have given at that point in time.

See, its kind of weird how fishermen are. This thread was about etiquette and everyone wants to start throwing out what's legal. I mean frick, its legal for me to pull up 5 feet from your boat and cast in your fricking hole too. So i'll throw the legal zoom books at you when fishing.

The etiquette was already discussed. As long as he's not sitting on the dock fishing it, it is fine. If he was sitting inside drinking his morning coffee and came running out of the house to be a dick, then frick him.

Like everyone has said already, there is nothing wrong with fishing a dock on a public lake if (a) the owners aren't fishing it already and (b) kids aren't swimming in the water.

I commend you for playing devil's advocate in this thread, Chad

so tell me, at what point does would one not fish around a dock? should you just fish around it, then move on? is it rude to park up next to it for an hour?

If someone is fishing on the dock then I think you should pass it by but if not then you have just as much right to fish it as he does.

I would get your connection to the private oxbow to talk to the "owner" and see what the deal is. I couldnt see them swaying towards the dickhead since ultimately both are "renting" access each month.

Oh, so you come along, fish under his private pier and the hard labor of building a under water structure over a long period of time, boat guy pulls up with his costas to catch fish and you're calling the pier owner a thief. What a loser you are to think that.

his private pier on a lake that he doesnt own. on an oxbow. there are millions of piers on public bodies of water in louisiana, and everyone that fishes in louisiana fishes them. you do. i do. this old bastard does too. everyone on this board that fishes in louisiana fishes piers. so for this old piece of shite wants to keep it to himself is a load of bullshite. it's public water and he knows the real reason anyone might not fish there is just because he's being a dick. he's like a kid who whines and cries to get what he wants. exactly the same thing.

i can not stand this shite. i have had people try to run me off of public land in the basin because they think i don't know where the lines are, and it pisses me off because they are trying to take something that belongs to everyone and keep it for themselves.

This reminds me of the Catahoula Lake argument. "My grampa hunted this spot since 1892, so I have therefore established a "lease" on public property."

On a natural navigable Lake, the State owns the water bottom to the ordinary high water make. 99% opf these docks are built atop state lands, and some camps even encroach. If you build on public property, the public can use it. Etiquette might require you to avoid it while someone is on it, just like you shouldn't fish right on top of someone(though that rule is violated frequently).
