Is there an etiquette while fishing docks?

So me and The Last Coco got bitch and yelled at for catching white perch under a dock yesterday. Apparently the owner felt that because he sunk a few Christmas trees under his dock, that the fish were his property. He claimed that it was rude and weird for us to be fishing around his property, and that we should respect his property.
I've always assumed that it was understood that if you had a dock on a public lake, that other people would fish around your dock, and as long as they weren't vandalizing your property, they had every right to fish the dock.
What say the OB? Is there a dock etiquette that I'm not aware of?

You're assumption is correct.
I hate people who act like they own the water. frick them, I'll fish it dry if they wanna be dicks.

Technically, at least in GA, the power company owns up to the flood plain. That could be a couple 100 feet from the shoreline.

My wife hates it if she is on dock and ppl cast baits actually on top of and not under. it may be rude if they were fishing at the time you were.

Can't argue with people like that. You just have to say "I'm sorry" and move on. He knows he's being a dick, but he'll never admit it.

I agree with that. I'm not going to fish a dock if it has someone fishing off of it. That was not the case here though.

Try to be quiet if it looks like there's a house on or above the dock.
Nothing worse than having some loud mouth wake me up at 630 or 7 AM on a Sunday bc he's catching fish 15 ft below the room where my bed is.
I don't mind (<edit) if you fish just be quiet, and usually they are.

But your using someone else's private property as a benefit to your fishing. I can see his frustration.

He was a a-hole. Give em hell on his dock everytime you fish his area.

don't fish dock with someone on it
that's the only etiquette I would respect. Screw that guy.

I don't see a problem with it at all. He placed trees in a public fishing spot. That is the risk he chose to take. Some people just like to do this kinda stuff just so they can bitch about something. "I'm gonna fix this hole up and I dare someone to catch a fish out of it!"..... Tell him when the fish quit biting you will be on your way.

Nope. Just don't get on top of the people fishing off the dock. We have one on Old River and people troll up all the time while we're fishing it and catch fish around it.

If someone isn't fishing from the dock it is fair game.

like I said, it is just kind of an accepted thing if you put a dock on a public lake

As long as you're fairly skilled at casting, go for it. If you're a chump who keeps hitting their dock with your worm weights then that's a different story.
I hate the guys who are pricks about their docks. Lakes like that are shared.

He built is private property over a public waterway.

Tell him he's cluttered up your fishing hole with his dock and trees. You might sue him.
