LINK

Looking to buy another 1911 and wondering if this would be a good one? Uses prob range/truck gun. Or should I spend a bit more for one of the higher end names. I could probably stretch the budge to about 1k, but I was hoping to get a 1911 and another both gun.

I would never use a 1911 as a truck gun. Spill a few drinks on it, let the dust and dirt get in the action, and no boom. I would much rather a modern firearm as a truck gun. However, as a range gun, sure.

I spilled coke on my glock when I was driving one time. I had a helluva time cleaning all of the powder from inside the trigger safety.

Oh look! Somebody who likes to use old and unreliable firearms! I bet he uses cannons too!

I also own a Kimber but I will stick to the fact that a modern gun is a better tuck gun than a 1911.

I wouldn't ever put a 1911 in my truck, but that's just because I love them too much and if my truck was broken into I don't want to lose it.

And you bet your arse I would use a cannon if I could. That seems fun as frick!

Form 1s are cheap. A lot cheaper than those overpriced, overrated, too heavy, too few shot pistols.

Im trying.

Yeah, I'm not taking the bait.

There's already another thread for that.

I own two Glocks, btw.

BT,
I don't any personal experience w/ Girsan's. In fact, this is the first I've heard of the brand. Unfortunately, my work computer is misbehaving at this time, blocking me from doing any research on the brand or the using your link. OTOH, as far as a truck gun goes, there should be nothing wrong w/ using a 1911 in general. I'm not going to get into the whole "Glock vs 1911" rhetoric, but don't forget the 1911 served a long time as the sidearm for our miliary and continues to serve as the sidearm for a number of law enforcement agencies. No, it's not the most "modern" gun out there, but it's far from being obsolete. Your main concern is two:
1. Can I shoot the gun well.
2. Is the gun reliable.

If you get the Girsan (or any other gun to be carried in your vehicle), I would NOT carry it until you're confident it is 100% reliable. Just because this 1911 is not labelled Kimber, STI, Springield, etc, does not mean it is a piece of junk. I'm guessing the Girsan is prolly made in The Phillipines or maybe Turkey. I own 2 non-American 1911's (a Citadel and an American Classic, one of which is in my truck) and am not the least bit ashamed of them; they may not be as refined as the domestic 1911's, but mine are still fine guns.

I'll look up the Girsans later at home as I'm curious about them.

Thanks for the good information. If that one is up to par, I will probably buy that one and a glock so I can be on both sides.

Why is it always 1911 vs Glock? I didn't realize other firearms makers decided to leave the market. Anyway, my go-to "battle" handgun would be a S&W M&P or a Beretta 92.

As for the OP, the link won't work for me since Bud's has so much traffic. What brand is it?

1911's have gotten dirty in Europe, the Pacific, the MId East and still are being used by high speed guys in theater. I wouldn't keep a 1911 in the truck because unlike a Tupperware gun they will be sorely missed in the event they are stolen.

Because as much as you want them to be XD/M&P's are not Glocks.

And I still think you're a loon for liking the 92
