Been wanting to plant either a crape myrtle or some flowering tree in my front yard but haven't had a chance. Is it too late?

No, not optimal but if you water the heck out of it it should be ok

Someone told me you could plant a tree from a pot into the ground any time, but don't try to dig one up this time of year. IIRC I planted a live oak 5 years ago that was around this time of year. It's still alive.

No, but I suggest watering it regularly using a low Nitrogen, high Phosphorus and medium Potash fertilizer to stimulate root growth as opposed to leaf growth. You don't want to give it much Nitrogen before the roots are developed.

Dogwoods, as well as wild native azaleas, are hard as hell to transplant if it's not wintertime. I wouldn't feel bad.

Those are though to transplant.

But trees in pots will do well now. May need more water going into the hotter summer months.

So what's a good tree for the front yard as well as the back yard for those living in subdivisions? Got a pecan in the front that was here when we bought the place but would like to add something else out front and get something going in the back.

I like oaks but that may get a little big for a subdivision.

I have a green ash that is very nice. Very clean tree. My mom has a few swamp maples that look good and fairly clean.
