Guy owns boat for only a few days.
Capsizes 15 feet from shore.
911 can't find Coast Guard number.

Strange. It took me less than 1 minute to google their phone number.

Some people don't need to own a boat.

Maybe you shouldn't back into big waves

Two boats in the rough surf 15 feet from rocks. Genius.

It makes sense on one level, stay right next to the shore and you will be safer. Don't go a couple hundred feet out, out of the breakers, until you are coming into to dock. If it's scary right next to the rocks, it's probably worse a couple hundred feet out, right?

What should he have done? I'm not the most experienced offshore boater.

Backing into a large wave for one. Doesn't sound like they were real experienced. Probably should have never left the dock if they knew weather was headed their way. Also doesn't sound like they had a radio to contact the coast guard since they had to call 911 with cell phones.

At least he held his boats hand while it sank

Sounds like these guys should have stayed at the dock sitting on their yetis.

Maybe he should've learned how to drive a boat before taking it into the gulf. "Let's back up!"

What's real funny is that he could've thrown a rock at the Coast Guard base. It's less than 100 yds away.

More money than brains. Seems to be common with large boat owners. My old boss bought a 60' as his first boat. He sank it in Pontchartrain on the second trip out.

How in the hell did he manage that?

I wasn't on the boat that day. He was running full throttle coming out of Pass Manchac and ran it into a huge cypress stump just under the surface. Probably too close to shore.
The water was shallow, so the boat didn't go completely under.
He had to pay someone to inflate a huge balloon inside the hull, then pump the water out so he could tow it back to the Tickfaw area.

He got out over his boat hobby about a month later.

I love the know it alls who've never had a boat before and blow you off. Saw one do that and after they hit a few stumps they started wondering if those poles with red and green colors meant something relevant to their problems
