I'm replacing the flip back ice chest seat on my boat with a leaning post. I know not to drill into the fuel tank, but has anyone done this that can offer advice?

I planned on reusing the old screws/bolts and using some 3M 5200.

Me too, but haven't yet because I'm not sure the best way to secure it to the deck.

if at all possible you want to thru bolt it thru a backing plate. If you do not have any access under the deck, at a minimum over drill the holes and use toggle bolts

If you can not get under the deck to install a backing plate, you can install a deck port hole. That can be under the leaning post. They come in different sizes and very easy to install.

I installed mine with stainless screws and polyurethane adhesive (glass over 3/4 plywood deck) 15 years ago. 100 or so offshore and rough water trips later, no problems.

I bought a leaning post from cutting edge on Craigslist last year. Not the prettiest welds but for $395 shipped I ain't mad at it.

I removed the cooler seat and installed the leaning post with stainless screws and LOTS of 5200. I've only had it a year but it shows zero signs of wigglin.

That's where I got mine from. Can't beat that price. I'm a little disappointed at the size of the ice chest that fits in it. My 50 will only hold like 20 of the huge trout I usually catch.

You'll just have to use that as your drink box going forward and put your 165 qt on the front of your boat for your massive trout

This and use lots of 5200.
Some boats come with backing in key spots, mine has backing under the CC, under the leaning post area, and in the bow under the trolling motor mounting area. Check this for your boat or do the above.

If its made out of aluminum and you don't want electrolysis, you can rub tef-gel on the screws before installing.

Someone is thinking this morning. You going to the camp? I was gung ho and packed up until I saw the latest weather. I may be over to your camp to steal some tools to install this thing.

I keep my yeti under the leaning post and a 94 qt igloo up front for fish. Did you get the backrest? I must admit I didn't want it but the wife made me get it and I love it when we are booze cruisin.

Yes I have it--it came with it. I'll never use it.

I was thinking about going but the weather is keeping me in town. I am going to try and go down next weekend to work on the Reel Time. You are more than welcome to get some tools from the camp if you need some, you still have a key?
