Inshore Experts - Critique my bait haul
Posted by Polar Pop on 7/27/13 at 4:57 pm00
Headed to OB next weekend. Fishing Fort Morgan Point one morning looking for specks and/or reds, and also perdido pass in the evening.
Just went to Bass Pro and got a few items. Anything I need to take back and switch. I had everything together in my head and froze up when I walked in. This is all new to me and it was a little overwhelming. My dad was also tossing random shite in the cart (The small spoons with grub and "doubletake")
2x Weedless gold spoon 1/2 oz
1x Weedless black? spoon 1/2 oz
2x Silver spoon 3/8 oz
7x Popping cork rigs
2x Super spook jr.
1x Strike King spinner
1x 3/4oz egg sinker
3x TS Redfish spoon w/ grub (chart, clear, yellow)
1x "doubletake" (closest to skitterwalk he could find)
1x Gulp Alive new penny shrimp

I don't fish inshore(yet), but if I did I'd use some Rapala lures for sure. Good luck.

Get the vudu shrimp. They are awesome

vudu > gulp? And whats the deal with those small spoons and grubs? My dad threw those in the basket. I almost want to take all this shite back and start over
Get some egg sinkers, Kahle hooks, and some swivels to make some carolina rigs.
Some 20 and 40 lb fluorocarbon would be good.
As suggested Vudu Shrimp ... They seem to be the craze ... I think gulps work just fine though
Some top dog jrs (bone is my fav and the pink is a close second)
Some more gold spoons with the swivel already attached ... Red fish killa
Matrix shad work well in Lake P
Tsunami swim baits (plastic minnow) are great for the marsh in Delecroix

Get rid o those prerigged poppin corks. Cant be adjusted for depth and u dont need steel leader
agreed. I've got nothing against the pre rigged, but buy some or make some with mono or fluoro leader.

Pre-rigged is only way to go, but definitely make yourself.
2/0 Kahle hook, about 20" of 40# flourocarbon and swivel. One touch I add when tying is to secure the knot with a tiny drop of nail glue.
Anyone else feel the vudu shrimp is too small? I've caught only throwbacks on it, and feel it could be an inch or two bigger.

Overkill inshore IMO.
I disagree, I always use 40# can catch trout or reds all day and don't have to worry about line fraying and tied up with braid can really horse fish int he boat and don't have to worry about them popping off!
OK so I need top dog Jr. And return the popping corks and make my own?
I just want to get this right because I am probably going to only get one good morning trip to fish Ft. Morgan and I want to be successful.
Thanks for the suggestions, anything else in that pile I can do without?
