I know a number of you have shot bolt action .308's for some period of your hunting life. I am currently seeking the best options I can buy $2,000-$4,000 budget.

Get William Roscoe out of around Bossier City to build you one. He is one of the most reputable gun builders in the entire nation and anything he builds will be better than ANYthing coming out of a factory. It depends on what you want this rifle for, his rifles are 1,000 yard guns. If you want further info, Google him. I believe that's in your budget range and probably your very best option.

If you're just hunting with it you should just buy something from Academy

Unless you know him, he pretty much shut it down.

But I do agree. For 2-4k get a custom.

Go look at snipershide/longrangehunting, there are several like new setups being sold for thousands less than buying new. You might not get 100% what you want, but you avoid the wait and get a discount.

DPMS Panther AR-10. put a swarovski on it, and save yourself 2 grand. buy some cheap walmart 7.62 and shoot till your heart's content. come deer season, get some regular ammo and kill some.

of course you did say bolt action. take that other 2 grand and buy one.

I'd probably get a sako 85 and put a leupold vx3 on it. Not sure what I'd do with the rest of the money.

If I buy another one it'll be a Ruger compact 308 with a Leupold 4x12. I'll spend the other 2500 on the old lady.

If you don't want to go custom look into the colt M2012T. I have one and its actually built by Cooper. It has a Manners stock and timney trigger. You can get AI 10 and 20 rd mags for it. You can get the gun for $2400. It's a lot of gun For the money.

If you are just hunting with it go with a high end factory rifle and drop 300-400 on glass. It will prob be more accurate than you will be capable of shooting.

If you are looking for a bench gun I have no idea.

Regarding my suggestion of a Sako 85, you should look at they new carbonlight. It is close to $2300 and weighs next to nothing. That topped with a Nightforce NXS, IOR Valdada, or a Schmidt and Bender Klassic would be a phenomenal hunting setup for around 4 grand.
