And I want to shoot myself. If you're over the age of 16 and learn a single thing from this, you have no business ever touching a gun.
Also, how does knowing the definition of marksmanship make me any better at actually handling a gun?

I did hunters safety when I was 12. I have since lost my card and decided to do an online course because the place I'm dove hunting requires a hunters safety card.

If you've ever had one before you could have called LDWF and gotten a replacement card.

You can get another card or click the deferred option when purchasing license.

Except that I'm in Texas now. Not sure that my LA one would be valid here.
Besides, it's only $15 and I can print it off tonight and be ready to hunt this weekend rather than waiting for LA to mail it to me.

Just saw your Texas comment - if you meet the age requirements required to take a hunters safety course your license is proof you have taken it - you can't buy one without it - if you have your La license with you that's your proof

The land I'm hunting belongs to the Army corps of Engineers. They require you to have your card on you at all times and they do check from what I'm being told.

Hunted a place like that in Texas last year. Game warden looked like a special forces and I didn't have mine. Luckily had seen my old wallet at my parents house a few months older and was able to tell my dad where to look and send me a picture. Long shot of all long shots but it kept me from a ticket.

Hunters education is valid to purchase licenses in other states such as Texas and Mississippi I would have sure as hell called the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department before I sat through it again.

Wait, hunters safety card is not valid country wide? I've never hunted out of state.

Is it required for those old farts like me born in the late 50's and 60's? We don't have to take Hunters Ed to get a La. license.

That sounds like govt. bureaucracy at it's finest. I'd find another place to hunt. I haven't seen my card in 20 years. The last time being the week after I got it.

You can print off a card from the LDWF website. That's what I did when getting my Iowa tags for this year.
