I want to build an AR to mount behind the rear seat of my Avalanche. A SHTF scenario weapon. I'm thinking a 16" carbine with a collapsible stock, Vortex red dot and BUIS.
5.56 or 300 Blackout?

I hate the term SHTF.

But if its truly a SHTF weapon it has to be 5.56

There is more 5.56 floating around the states, we'll probably never run out.

5.56 if 16" and not suppressed, that's not what 300blk was designed for. Personally in a SHTF/duty/war/life depending rifle I would want a pinned A2 FSB over a flip front sight which is more susceptible to breakage if banged up or losing zero if spending it's life bouncing around your truck.

Look also at a pinned 14.5" barrel.

Fixed 4-6x optic with 45 degree mount BUIS (fixed not the flippy kind).
