My son has his cousins Remington 870 compact. Used it for dove season last year and one duck hunt. After both the gun was thoroughly cleaned and oiled with CLP. Took it out at the beginning of the summer to check it and it was fine. Took it out today because my niece will be using it tomorrow and I was horrified to find it completely covered in rust. Check all the other guns that were in with it and they are all fine. It's was sitting in a locked closet in my upstairs office.

Asked my brother about it and he said it had done the same thing to him a couple of times.

I know that they're inexpensive but a gun shouldn't rust when it has oil on it. Has to be a really cheap finish or cheap metal. I don't know but I won't be wasting my money one that brand.

They aren't called Rustington for no reason. Only buy pre-freedom group Remingtons. The new ones are total garbage.

I've turned down a Quality Engineer job at Remington because of the horror stories I've heard.

I've shot a remington 700 model BDL 30-06 for twenty years. Killed tons of deer and shot hundreds of rounds. Never cleaned it and never had a single issue.

Old Remingtons were very good. I have a 870 from about 1980 and I have a first year 1187 that has had at least 10000 rounds through it and has NEVER not fired. \

A friend bought two 1187s at Walmart a few years back and neither are reliable.

Walmart forced the quality out of them.

My old 700 ADL 270 is a very good rifle. It too is from the eighties.

My first shotgun is an 870. Bought it on the recommendation of literally everyone. I guess this was just about the time Remington started going to shite. Right out of the box it failed to eject every 3rd shell (bent ejector spring). Overall the thing just felt not good but I kept telling myself that it was just me and everyone likes em. Still have it. Hasn't been shot in several years though.

Have a Remington 887. Had problems initially (the dumbasses put the trigger assembly together wrong), but other than that, great gun. In fact, I got it specifically because I had issues with my grandfather's A-5 rusting when hunting the marsh.

Have a 700 ADL 380. It may be five years old. Only run a pad on string to clean the inside the barrel after firing. Haven't done anything to the outside and haven't had any problems. It normally stays in a closet at my house.

Had an 870 since Christmas 2002. Sumbitch paddled a boat/ was a push pole, got rained on and muddied up and probably shot 10,000 (rough estimate) rounds. Other than the every once in a while hang up on low brass, I've never had a problem.
Funny, I'm on the hunt for a 20 gauge for a "it's yours but I'm going to use the shite out of it" gift for the wife.

Granted, the times I have gotten it wet, it was wiped down. Don't think I've oiled it though. Quit oiling frickin shotguns. That'll fix it.

My BIL bought a new 870 a couple years ago, and I bought a $149 escort pump from academy to throw in my toolbox.

My cheapo is 5 times more reliable than that 870. And it's been well taken care of.

The barrel and bolt that came with my 700 rusted a bit. It's due to the parkerized finish I believe. I cerakote drue barrel and polished the bolt. Looks good now. I get pick on though about the barrel being "Made in China". It doesn't actually say it, but it doesn't say "Made in America" either. It was a WALMART adl special.

Express is a POS shotgun. I have a tactical model and it does fine in the house. My 870 wing master from the 70's is great.
