No shite. She was big too...

Craziest part was it was on the Red River which is the coldest body of water in NW La.

This weather is nice, but I think we'll get another cold snap.

Thoughts?

The phase of the moon and the warmer weather, will be pushing them up. I believe the magic water temp for the spawn is like 55-56 degrees. Did you check that while you were in the area.

The fish in the Red are weird. I've seen them spawn late too. Nothing surprises me there.

I didn't have a temp guage in the boat.

It was in the very back of a pocket way off the main river. So, it was the warmest place you could find.

That being said I caught 12 ranging from a 1 to 4 lbs. in 4 to 7 feet of water that were cruising and hungry.

The one on the bed wouldn't bite.

She was big, looked to be about 6 lbs (considering magnification of the water).

Not saying it would have worked, but I've caught a lot of bedded fish by letting a brightly colored work sit motionless in the bed. Sometimes it takes a very long time, but eventually they remove it. You just have to wait to set the hook because sometimes they lift it by the tail only.

Exactly what I tried but I gave up after about 15 minutes and a dozen or so cast because I was catching 'em good before I found her... had 2 about 4 lbs.... so I just rolled on and kept fishing.

Plus she saw me about 1/2 way through our little session and got a lot more timid. Wind fricked me and blew my boat too close.

Yeah, I never know when to quit. Rec fishing, I could never stay long. Tourneys would make me really sit on a kicker.
