Went two days ago. I walked to a 3.5 acre pasture on a high ridge about a mile and a half form my camp. Right at gray light one gobbler blew up in the woods North of the pasture in the woods.

Suddenly, the urge for my morning constitution kicked in...I had no choice but follow thru.

After this I moved in to set up on Gobbler # 1. I called... He responded but so did another Gobbler
I will call Gobbler #2. He was to my left and close.

I shifted my position slightly to the left as I thought he would come down the dim road that borders the pasture.

Suddenly, Gobbler #3 blows up directly behind me in said pasture and he was close!

I turned over laying on my stomach and stuck my gun thru the fence. The sun was just up and directly in my face. the Gobbler topped the small knoll in the center of the pasture. He was coming in fast. He got within range and stopped.

Then he started this nervous back and forth shite. I figured I better take the shot and did. Missed the MFR.

Since we are telling stories.

Last Saturday a buddy and I started well before daylight on a mission to kill a gobbler. At first light we hear a turkey several ridges over. By the time we get in the area there are two others gobbling back towards our original location. We set up on #1 and work him within 70 yards only to be out done by 3 real hens. The gobbler gets with the hens and starts down into a bottom. We immediately move parallel to them to cut them off. After moving 250+/- yards we start into the bottom only to bump the birds and all hope is lost. We then double back to try and find turkeys that were gobbling at the half way point to the truck. After a few random yelps one shakes the ground with a gobble and he is close! We fall to the ground and scramble to the nearest tree only to waist the next 45 minutes trying to figure out where the bird is. The next time we hear the bird he is across our property line. Frustrated I voted to walk to the truck for more water before trying again. Within 100 yards of the truck I find a dusting in the road that looks extremely fresh. I make the comment that the bird is very close to this area. My buddy yelps for the hell of it and the bird cuts him off. We have walked 2-2 1/2 miles only to be working a bird within spitting distance from the truck. We ease off the road and get set up. The bird seems to be very hot but will not come up the hill. After realizing that our approach isn't going to work we retreated back toward the truck. Get a quick drink then continue down the road opposite of the first location and call. The bird answers and seems to be traveling in the bottom towards us. Turkey comes directly in front of us but still in the bottom and refuses to climb the hill. After what seemed like an eternity we belly crawled out of the woods and got on our feet in the road. We sprinted a good piece down the road and fell off in the bottom without spooking the turkey. We set up on the same level as the turkey and killed him within 3 minutes of being down on his level. I was breathing so hard I thought I was going to pass out. One of the best hunts I have ever had. My turkey season resolution is to be in better shape by next spring!! Bird was killed at 10:40 so hunt them late!!

Sounds like a great hunt! I'm going back in the am if its not too windy. Not too much time left in the season and the last week seems to be the best.
