Build box stand, comfy chair, few beers, good book and enjoy. May even see a deer or two

Hunting over food plots is good for taking a child, female, or a change of pace for me. I much rather be in the woods hunting in their natural habitat, but also enjoy an afternoon of beer drinking in a big comfortable box and watching game.

Good for attracting does, so during the rut they can effective for mature bucks.

+1, in my experience, mature bucks pretty much go nocturnal until the rut due to hunting pressure. You may see a nice buck opening weekend, but usually not again until the rut. That being said food plots are pretty good for does. You might try getting in the woods on a trail leading to the food plot, as the bucks tend to hang back till dark until the rut.

Kinda early to be planting but as far as hunting them is a good place to see does and maybe a young buck. Gret if you set up a ladder stands on the travel routes to and around food plots.

If you want to see bucks on green fields, then don't shoot does on them. It's hard to do, but shoot does elsewhere so that the green fields will be considered safehavens.

If you don't care about shoot bucks, then watch the wind and blast away

Food plots can be damn effective if used selectively and at the right time. The problem I see is that they get worn out and there's somebody in them all the time. You can't expect to see big bucks with human scent tracked all over the place and gunshots every few days.

If there are no blinds/boxes/stands set up already I would set the 3 up with boxes/blinds placed strategically to take advantage of different wind directions. One for a North wind and another for a West for instance. Then I'd simply let the wind determine where I'll be hunting each time.

I don't care for it, but some people have good luck with it.

Don't do too much shooting. It's tempting but don't blast does.

Killed both in a food plot. One was there checking a doe the other was crossing with no intent of eating

the whole "u wont see the big daddys" over them is bs.. during bow season you will, during the rut you will. i killed my biggest buck over a food plot. its just like any other stand, its timing. All the mature "smart" bucks will go into hiding once guns start popping until rut starts then they dont care

In my opinion and a few other wildlife managers, it's better to make oddly shaped food plots with thick cover near instead of just big square plots.

Deer are an "edge" species and the long curvy plots maximize your edges.

Food plots get a bum rap.
Last year both deer I killed were on/near the main food plot on my place. I hunted plenty or hours in other locations by creaks, oak flats and edges/corners in the woods. I think the trick was to set the stand back in the woods 50-100 ft, within sight of the plot and several approaches. Don't set up too close to the opening.
