Seems like Poplar Grove had a solid proposal...if they were to follow through with it.
I haven't read HRGCs 40 page proposal.

Just got another email update, seems the other player trying to get the lease wants to have a similar operation and involves the old manager from hunters run, now it is all making sense
Was told a couple days ago a friend hunted with the person who has the lease from HR. He bought nearly $500k in new equipment to update everything and then the lawyers called.

I cannot recommend this place high enough. World class facility. World class targets. And this event is going to be yuge. I will certainly be there. Any OBers interested, let's keep in touch come next fall.
Since you are clearly interested in sporting clays, I have a question: is there an instructor or a class you would recommend for someone looking to improve their shooting? In the BR area.

A guy that was always at Hunters Run does lessons, Kane Altazan. I have never taken a class from him, but I know the dude shoots nothing but 48-50's on the Thursday Fun Shoots.

Hes a certified instructor. You can probably find him on fb, or the web.
I spoke to him about taking a class. He said its $100 might last a couple hours. Youll shoot 8- 10 boxes of shells.
Nice guy, I just never got around to taking it.

Do you know a way to get his email address? Tried a quick couple of google searches and can't find anything.

Kane is a good shooter and good guy. Brian Brewton from Winnfield is an exceptional coach and as far as I know still the only lvl 3 instructor in the state. The main thing is if you already are an established shooter I woundnt recommend taking lessons from someone who teaches a completely different style. I came up shooting ISSF so I shoot a low gun hold sustained lead. I could pay for one of the best in Dan Carlisle but aside from his mental tips and pointers his shooting method would do nothing for me.

Man, that is way over my head. I've been duck hunting for about 4 yrs and I shoot clays for practice. How do I know what my shooting 'style' is?

I have Kane's info somewhere in my email or stack of business cards. Give me a few minutes and I'll post it.

The main 3 different ways to track a target. Swing through( the target gets in front of your gun barrel and as you swing through the target you pull the trigger) this is very common with beginners and old bird hunters. You don't want to do this. It's the most inconsistent and you will NEVER be elite shooting this way no matter how much you practice.
Pull away( you keep your gun barrel on the target and then right before pulling the trigger you pull your gun barrel out in front, up, down etc for the required "lead" to break it.
Sustained lead- Your gun barrel NEVER falls behind the target.
You can shoot with your gun mounted and face down on the stock before you ever say pull( most common).
You can shoot with the gun on your shoulder but your cheek lifted up off the stock so you can find the target, lower your face and pull the trigger.
Or you can shoot low gun where the stock is down mid chest height, one you see the target you push using ONLY your left hand to raise the gun to your face.
I swing whichever direction I need to intercept the target as I am pushing the gun to my face. As soon as the stock touches my cheek I pull the trigger.
Couple pointers I can give you while driving.
1.) if you close an eye shooting a shotgun stop now
2:) make sure you are really focusing on the front edge of the target. You should be trying to see the Rings or dimbles on the bird.
3.) Don't think about measuring lead.
4.) Develop a pre shot routine that takes no more that 10 seconds. Repeat it EVERY SINGLE TIME you prepare for a pair. If you call pull and the machine breaks a target. Stop clear your mind and repeat it.
5.) Do not let a bad station influence your next station or the rest of your round. Sporting clays is like golf in that it's 80% mental. As soon as you step out of the box that is in the past. Don't dwell on it.
5.b) this may sound crazy but do not think negative thoughts in the box. Your sub conscious can frick you up. If you know you need to shoot in front of a target Do not tell yourself " don't shoot behind it." Tell yourself " get out in front". Stick to positive thoughts.
hopefully all this gibberish can help you in someway.

I try and open both eyes, but Civiltiger will start pulling away and I cant make myself keep doing it.
Ive seen guys out there with scotch tape over their non dominant eye to help them learn to shoot with both open.

Okay this is the closest to what I do. I probably don't exclusively use my left hand but I know the motion of 'pushing' the gun to the target and keeping the bead on the target all the way through the mounting process.
Do you know which of the instructors you mentioned would be best for this style?

Brian Brewton. I was coached by Brian all through High school. I shot probably 1-2 cases every week with him for about 3 years.
He also use to instruct Caitlin Connor(current LSU student) who will most likely represent Team USA in the next Olympics shooting International Skeet

Brian May or may not be giving lessons at the moment. His health has been a little bad in the last year or so. I'll get in touch with him and if he is I'll get you his contact info. I've been out of the game for a few years so I can't remember if Kane if a premount or low gun shooter.

If he's not, can you ask him for another recommendation for an instructor?
