I'm very curious -- where did y'all get the idea that Riverside has gun club memberships for clays?

My serious response was 'Honestly, I have no idea.'

Several years ago I shot an NSCA registered tournament out there and the phrases 'member' and 'private club' were used quite frequently. So draw from that what you will. Whether or not there is a formal membership process, like I said earlier, I honestly have no idea.

Riverside does not have "members". Charlie has friends that shoot. You must be invited by Charlie, or shoot in an event being hosted there.

This has always been my understanding.

Charlie is gracious enough to allow a few non-profits to use his facilities for fund raising shoots. And for a couple of years he scheduled 3-4 registered shoots there annually (but this hasn't happened for a while).

Charlie is a great guy and a really good clays shooter. I don't claim to know him well (I have shot numerous events there, and he & his wife have taken my CCW class), but I seriously doubt he needs the income (and he certainly doesn't need all the headaches) that he'd derive from opening that site up to the public.

The last day was a hell of an event. I don't think I'd seen that many people out there ever (state shoots excluded). I don't think the last ditched efforts are going to pay off, and it sounds like even more frickery is going down. I don't think that place ever turned much of a profit after talking with the owner.

Bartender said the owner was ready to pay considerably more than they were currently paying amd that he didn't need the income from HR. She also said another location was a possibility.

I would hate for it to no longer be a range, but it could certainly use some improvements. Maybe someone else will run the same tyoe of operation and make it better.

I dont care who runs it, i just like having a place close by to miss a few clays.

Yeah, he saw the writing on the wall for long-term use there. I know he wanted to expand the rifle range as well (200+ yards). I have a feeling the location will be mired in legal crap for a while. It's difficult to find property that works. It has to be easy to access for the masses while being big enough and out of the way. It doesn't mix well with neighbors. People are a bit squeamish when it comes to living next to gun ranges.

Well it looks like my advice:

Go put on your best dress, drive out there, squeeze your hands together, and say 'Pleeeeeeeeeeese'.

wasn't too bad after all.

Since it looks like a few sporting clays shooters are paying attention to this thread, I'll go ahead and offer a PSA for next year.

The South Central NSCA championships were awarded to Providence Hill in Clinton, MS (just outside of Jackson) next year in September: NSCA Championships

I cannot recommend this place high enough. World class facility. World class targets. And this event is going to be yuge. I will certainly be there. Any OBers interested, let's keep in touch come next fall.

What's the class payouts look like?

I haven't shot a registered target in over two years. I know I'll be bumped way down from AA with such a layoff. I need a big money shoot to rack up on my return in probably D or C.

Had to do a test fire just now. This thing is sweet!

beautiful

I thought about emailing and asking if they would do the 3 gun series (12,20, 28) for 3K, but then I was worried if they said yes

Just got another email update, seems the other player trying to get the lease wants to have a similar operation and involves the old manager from hunters run, now it is all making sense
