How to dispose of a shotgun?

I bought my brother a shotgun before Katrina that got damaged. I had it redone, but it's not practical for him bc he can't shoot steel through it. Also, after Katrina my dad bought him a Benelli SBE for his birthday. So he nor I have any use for it, how does one go about throwing it away.
