I trade an old Toro lawn mower for a 16 foot La travler semi v alum. boat with a 40hp merc on it.

How much fuel (gas) should i have onboard? Right now it has two 6 gallon tanks.

I honestly only keep about 5-10 gallons in my tank because I never venture to far from where I launch and I like to keep it low in case it sits for a while and I want to dump in another 5-10 gallons of fresh gas before using it again.

20 gallon tank fwiw.

Also, I'm talking about a bass boat. I would look at it differently if I was going off shore or into remote marsh areas often.

I have a 50 gallon tank on my bay boat and it stays full or close to full. I use non ethanol and treat it with startron if I happen to get non ethanol somewhere. I try and keep it topped off after I use it. I do use my boat once to twice a month sometimes more unless work interferes like it has.

Same here...I keep mine about half full. I only run either the Tchefuncte, Lake Ponch. or the Amite, so I dont need a full tank.

Would there be any advantage to have two 6 gal tanks, compare to one 12 gal tank. i'm think of replace the two 6 gal tanks with one 12 gal tank.

26 gallon tank and I'll keep it full. It stays on the dock and I'll refill it with fresh gas every time we take it out.

Like to top it off and use the stability stuff if it'll sit.

If 1 6 gallon gets a crack in it, or some trash in it you can switch to the other without issue while on the water and take care of it when you get home. My pawpaw always had 2 tanks, so i do too.

Tank is 16 gallons or so. Fill it/ top it before every trip out.

16' ski boat, 150 outboard.

I keep three gallons for safety if I run out.

It'll get me to the dock as I ski the same stretch of the river because it is straight, wide and wind protected.

Two gas tanks can help balance the boat if they are on opposite sides.

That is true but highly unlikely. Get a custom made, 12 gal aluminum one to fit the desired place you want to put it and be done.

If you got there on 6 gallons, when you swap tanks it's time to head back to the landing. And you should have enough fuel to get there.

300 gallons and always top it off when I'm finished to prevent condensation from building up in the tank.

No, I'd stick with 2. Use 1, when you run low switch to the other. Keep them as full as possible to reduce the condensation that sometimes forms on the tank. With a 6 gallon tank and a 40 you could run a few hours without running out.

54 gallons and I keep it full. Just a tip, Yamaha dealership told me that for every inch of vapor space you leave in your tank, you will condense "so many" ounces of water in a given amount of time. I don't remember the number of ounces or the length of time. To get the true amount you had to consider the size of the tank, ethanol or non ethanol, boat in the sun or under a roof, etc., etc.. It was way more math than I wanted to do. But my point is that it was more water than I wanted hitting my filter/water separator. In fact, my boat didn't even have a water separator until we had that conversation and then I installed one.

My vote would be two 6 gallon tanks and always rotate the tanks so you have fresh gas. The worst thing you can do is to always run on the same tank and let your second one get stale.

I have a 25 gallon tank (I think) and I top it off after every use. I use it a lot so I'm not worried about fuel going bad, just condensation forming in the tank from too much air/not enough fuel.
