How much firewood do you burn in the winter?

Guy I know had an oak tree fall and said I can take whatever I want. I've never had enough wood on our property to cut to last all winter. Trying to get a general idea. We're the 'burn a fire mid afternoon until bed' kind of household.

You will burn that entire tree if you keep a fire going every day for the winter. But if you are in S LA there are many days we rin A/C so that tree will probably be plenty

A chord and a half is a good amount.

We do a lot of outdoor fires. Good way to stay away from the mindless addiction of TV. Last winter we burned two pick up tuck loads. Probably had a fire 3-4 times a week.

You must make small fires

Get too much.

If you have some left over make a huge fire the last cool snap and get it gone.

Been chopping wood all summer for my old man, he figures he needs about 20 cords to get through the winter, however you might not need that much

He has one of the outdoor furnace deals, that run the heat pipes under the house and in the garage floor. Plus it actually gets cold up here.

This is the model he has, just set up to run the water pipes though.

None here. I have two fireplaces but no chimneys. Both are gas

Splitting wood is therapy for me really. I see certain faces on the ends of the unsplit logs. Enjoy yourself.

while we're talking about this, someone help me 'name this tree'. Cut some last year, never again it's name is basically "hard tree" in French or something. This bitch was tough as hell. Does this ring a bell for anyone?
