This guy goes into some depth on winch recovery.

By the way, if you get an 8,000lb winch, should you get a 16,000+lb rated snatch block? The guy didn't really mention it.

Yes. I believe they usually come in 10k increments. Just make sure your cable fits in there

Rock crawling in jeeps is the fricking tits. If I lived somewhere where the terrain was more suitable id totally build a rig

I've done it in Texas and Tennessee. Would much rather a muddy trail though. Too much turning when you get on the rocks

it depends what you find more fun

I like fast tracks and hill climbs through the woods on my SxS.
But running wide open in the desert is a blast too. Im not a big fan of rock crawling but then again nothing I have ever owned was set up for that

One thing I've found, it's pretty easy to just flip a sideways jeep with a few guys easier than winching

Bought a 20K from HF last week for $15.

Wheeling to me is to never get stuck. I will be dam if I'm going to walk. My XJ only let me down once in 7 years. Any yes, I go were others will not even try due to the fact I don't care to much if I hit a tree and sure as hell don't care about any scrapes. My XJ is my 4wheeler.
