i found out this afternoon that my wife's grandfather has 100 acres of land that is not hunted. he told me i can have free rein on hunting this property and i was just wondering how the deer hunting was in this area. TIA

Depends on what part. I hunt in Livingston Parish in a club and theirs not many mature bucks because everyone hunts and shoots anything with horns. If you found a spot that doesn't have much pressure and outlaws all around it then i dont see why it couldn't be a decent spot, but I wouldn't get my hopes to high.

he said no one hunts it "legally", but thats not sayin much! he said the guy that owns most of the surrounding area has it fenced and has really nice deer. i figure he prolly has been managing it for some time now. im hoping that since it hasnt had much pressure it has some nice ones...and its around walker

I joined a club out towards albany back in hs. Tried bow hunting but those sorry bastards never quit running dogs. The deer were completely nocturnal. I've never seen so many spikes shot in my life.
Those bastards would basically shoot anything they saw. Oh and not to mention the rabbit dogs running past my stand.

I'm done ranting.

i know the big problem around my house is dogs. they dont know property lines and their owners dont either. if its a big piece of still hunting property the deer are here just get shot as soon as they can stand.

100 acres in that area is probably being hunted by someone. Id bet you have some
Illegal hunters on there. :tiger79:

Walker is about 20 minutes from my house, let me know if you need a hunting partner. You may have a spot that has some decent deer if the neighboring property is managed, but most people in Livingston Parish shoots whatever they see and the deer become nocternal like someone said earlier. Goodluck though.

thats how it is here in st. landry parish too, they shoot anything, im not a trophy hunter, i kill for the meat, but i dont shoot anything that walks, and if it does have decent deer ill try to keep it up, i would prolly try to manage more since im the only one thats supposed to be hunting it

well it may not be too bad walker is probably hunted a lot different than the areas most of us are talking about...generally the closer you get to walker and denham the less like livingston parish it will be...probably will not be as bad as we are saying..

As a life-long resident of the LP, and from the walker area, i can tell you that there is not a 100 acre spot that is virgin hunting land. Only place i can think of would be more towards the Satsuma area or south of walker.

I doubt the Satsuma area does. Everyone in Colyell hunts and a lot of them illegally. I hope OP come back with pics of a monster and proves us all wrong.
