How hard would it be to repair this type of gun?

well the description is pretty non descript.
You will need to get all the kosmoline off first.
The damage could be cosmetic only which on a surplus SKS is like putting lipstick on a hog. An SKS is made to be a hard working mammal killing beast and it is just that. It is not a mantle piece.
Or the damage could be severe rust with pitting or completely broken stock which makes the repair not worth your time or money considering the price of the rifle.

here is where i got my surplus norinco type 56
LINK
cannot comment on the price except to say that it is more than i paid. however, these rifles, while certainly used, are shipped with most of the cosmoline removed (all i had to do was wipe down), all parts intact, and the bores are clean
on mine, all parts matched numbers, the stock is not cracked or compromised in any way, and the metal parts are more than functional
hope this helps

I started to buy a case of these the other day but got my feeling hurt when I noticed the distributor was in Canada. Heck of a deal too, they were $189ea.
I've always been intrigued by the SKS for some reason.

comfortable to carry and shoot
reasonably accurate and fires an affordable and available round
absolutely 100% reliable with a simple action that is incredibly easy to take down and clean
widely available and cheap replacement parts
not sure what more anyone could ask for a truck/camp/ranch rifle

Looks like the stock would have to be replaced. Can't find cheap SKS stocks?

I don't mind taking the time to clean it. Just trying to gauge how much time it'll take and the cost.
