How do you get rid of a yellow jacket nest in the ground?

I have one right by my front door and they start getting pissed if I crank up the mower in the front. I bought one of those disposable traps from Home Depot and I've caught exactly 0, but they are still coming and going from the hole in the ground.

Any suggestions besides selling my house? I'm sure a pest control company can help, but I'd rather destroy them myself.

I've thought about pouring some gas down there but I'll need to do it at night when they are all in the nest. Didn't know if anyone had dealt with them before.

Just how close to the house?

Normally I'd say go out there at night, pour a bunch of diesel, add a splash of gasoline, donate a lighted match.

Mix up some dawn and water with a heavy concentration of dawn and pour it in the hole. It should kill them. THat or if it isn't in danger of burning the house down pour some diesel and light it.

Or you could use spray foam in a can an cocoon them. Attach a string to the foam plug and a note to pull in case of emergency...

Seems like a waste to not set them on fire.
