This. I feel like their sole purpose in life is to bust you in that tree stand. I get a lot of satisfaction out of killing an old smart doe.

Post draw routine is crucial to consistently make good shots. Draw, deep breath, focus pin on a small spot in kill zone, 1,2,3 hit the release.

First one for me over 40 years ago had a 147 score with a compound. Really did not even think about it. Saw horns and never did look at them again until it was on the ground. I get more "buck fever" when a old long neck doe comes in cause they are always on edge and looking. A buck will just usually walk in not paying attention to nothing, especially if hunting acorns.

Killed my first deer (8 point) with a bow 4 yrs ago (im 34). Honestly the draw back and shot were no nerves, all focus. I had practiced and had a mindset. Now within 30seconds of arrow making contact... i had the biggest adreneline rush ive ever had in my life, and it lasted 3 hrs straight. Could not contain my shaking.

I never could understand why some folks will shoot a spike or a 4 pt when there are old does in the field. If you are going for meat the doe is fine plus it's far more impressive to kill an old doe than a spike. Coonasses get a bad rep for this.

I do it because that old doe is probably going to be the first to get bred when the rut starts. Ill take a spike or a yearling doe for meat over an old doe any day of the week.

I never get "buck fever" before the shot

For me, when I'm in the moment of the shot and all, everything slows down. Afterwards the shakes hit

They're brutal too.
Especially when it's cold or I'm under dressed and next thing you know the whole damn tree is shaking and my knees are knocking.

Depends on the situation and the time it takes to play out. Rattled up a 150" Kansas buck. Drew back and let down twice because of limbs he stopped behind. Finally killed him on the third draw at 10 yards. Fairly shook up by the time I finally got to shoot.
You have to be careful with the bow not to draw too early or too late.

Little Wick and I were up hunting at NoColor's place last year and 4 does walked out and then a little 4 point. I was going to let it walk but I'm not much of a deer hunter (gave it up years ago) and I was instructed to let little wick kill a deer, so my son pulled the gun up and this is what happened.

YouTube :21 seconds.

The deer moved off to a distance that he was not comfortable shooting so no deer were harmed in the making of this video.
