what kind of hooks do you guys use when fishing with live shrimp. I know the common answer is treble hooks, but I hate how big a pain they are to dig out of small trout's throat. Also, you kill lots of small ones. Khale hooks seem to do a good job of lip hooking trout. Also, has anyone tried small circle hooks for trout?

Khale is the anwser. I fish a lot with my 7 year old. He gets the treble and I get a khale.

People use treble hooks for live shrimp?

I typically buy Gamakatsu 2/0 or 3/0 in either a live bait, circle or octopus. I'm good with any of those.

I like khales, but man it took me a while to get use to them. I was use to setting the hook like it was plastics or on a bass. You literally just start reeling with khale hooks.

Treble hooks work great. Just keep your pliers handy

I use a 2/0 or 3/0 wide gap. The 1/0 is really too small if you are catching decent sized fish.

I use 3/0 Khale b/c it's a good medium for catching reds and trout. I keep 1/0 in the box if I'm reef fishing and get in to small fish like white trout or ground mullet. If I find trout I'm picking up a setup with plastic so it doesn't really matter if the 3/0 is a hair too big.
