The middle sow was really hurting from the nursing her piglets.

Tigerdeacon, Jr. decided to put his feet in this pic.

Nice! I just ground up some wild sows this week and made some delicious sausage!

My buddy out in California says that once you get away from the roads all the cattle land out there is infested with hogs. So much so that for one year (his ex wife's family has a cattle ranch so he could hunt whenever he wanted) he only bought meat when he wanted a change of pace from pork.

Having been out to the cattle ranch in question I can believe it. They are everywhere out there.

Winn Parish.

I have some photos of the coyotes trying to thin out the piglets. There were a few piglets with sows that high tailed it when we showed up. Coyotes got to eat too.

Doesn't California have a regulated season on wild hogs, too? If so, no wonder they have so many...

That they do, which is dumb as hell, but private land owners hunt them year round and still can't keep the numbers down. Probably because any hogs you kill on private land will be replaced by those wandering over from public land in a month or two.

Wild pigs do just fine in the arid climate there and despite having a ton of people most everyone in California lives in town. You get a bit out of town in a lot of that state and there is nobody around for miles.

Even worse, the tags are expensive, $22 per pig for in state hunters, $77 for non-residents. Absolutely nuts.

And for pests to boot! As much damage as feral pigs do out there the state should be paying people to shoot them not the other way around.
