Anyone ever fished this place? I live 15 miles from it and cant find a local that has been there and rented a boat (outside boats not allowed) and fished it. TIA

I fished it with my old man who got a report of all the big giant Chinquapin you want to catch. We rented a cabin and boat and fished all day, but all we caught were a bunch of small bream. This was 15 years ago btw, I was to young to appreciate it, but it's a beautiful place.

Why not just try it out one day?

It is a nice place. We went tent camping a few months ago there but didn't rent and fish. Plan on going back this weekend and seeing what the fishing is like. Thanks for the response Jay Ming

Goin to this weekend just wanted to if anyone may have been fishing for bass or white perch and if they did any good and if the fish may have different patterns than a big lake.

I grew up close to there and I fished it many times as a kid. Used to be very legit. My personal best out of there was a 7 pounder, but a lot of big fish have been caught there over the years. Like any fishing, you had to hit it right in the spring. It shut down for a while, and I haven't been back in 10+ years.

The lake is about 55 acres I think.

I went one weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas this past year and we caught a few small brim from the dock at the large new group camp building, but we were just playing with the kids with some night crawlers...

Post up a report when you get back so we'll know if it really has some fish.

We used to go every spring ten years ago. When they were biting we would tear the bass up. My buddy caught a seven pounder, but they have bigger. We caught most on just a regular black worm. It is a good time. I think it is closer to 200 acres though.

Used to murder the bream, but the grass is real thick now or was a few years ago, all the way up to the bank. It used to have some sandy spots and you could just troll around until you saw some beds, stop, catch, repeat. Last time there caught a few bass, one about 4lbs. Might be schooling though. Boats suck, and all you have is a trolling motor. They do rent yaks I believe or canoes. Beautiful lake, used to be the bomb back in the 60's and 70's. The motel and golf course across the hwy. was also nice, I believe its closed now. Good luck.

Would load up on bass about 25years ago. Beat the banks and cast into the rocks when the geysers cycle off. Think it was $40 for 2 and a boat back then.

Where you from TClay? My Grandfather helped build that place. We used to murder the fish there years ago.

I went last month, beautiful place to fish. The boats for rent are crap, i guess thats why they give you paddles also lol. I saw a bunch of bass, but couldn't get them to eat. Only caught one

Have some family that's trying to get that place back to former glory. State owns it now. Went to see it lit up at Christmas a lot as a kid. Bank fish for bream with kids is the only reliable fishing I've seen or heard.

We rented a cabin a couple of times but never fished, the cabin next to us went fishing & came back with a bunch of nice bass. You can't bring your own boat but you can rent one ($15/ day).

UPDATE:

Went and fished this place and didn't have good luck. Caught 2 fish (2lbs each roughly). 1 was shallow and one was deep both on plastics. Compiled some stuff incase anyone may wanna give it a go.
We had a goodtime even though we didn't mop up on the fish. Father and son trips like those are priceless no matter what.

FACTS:
225 acre lake
Must have valid LA Fishing license at rental.
$20 for a 16ft aluminum boat from 8a.m. til 8p.m.

Bass-10 per person per day
Sac-a-lait-50 per person per day
Catfish-100 per person per day

Boats have front mounted foot controlled trolling motors. (Motor controls are screwed down so you cant move them. Make it a little difficult to operate but we adapted and we fine.)
You get 2 paddles. (if you don't take a break around lunch and go hookup...NOTE TO SELF.)

They have 13 cabins from 85-120 a night and are fully furnished minus linens. Very nice views and nice abodes as well.
