So if you think bigger is better in bullets in terminal ballistics.... You are incorrect. Maybe in canonballs.

If you are one of these .45 cause they don't make a .46 guys, please just make sure you get a vasectomy.

Hundred year old designs have their place... Terminal ballistics from handguns isn't one of them.

True, however a bullet with higher velocity (and kinetic energy) that goes through a target carries remaining kinetic energy with it.

A slower projectile that remains in the target transfers ALL of its energy to the target and, therefore, does more damage.

It's funny this comes up. Over the last few days there have been break ins and attempts with items stolen in our little neighborhood. Yes, SO has been notified, they, along with everyone in the neighborhood, have seen his likeness and a few distinguishing attributes on surveillance and it's under investigation, but we've implemented a neighborhood watch.

Until sun up, I'll be sitting here under my carport with my 9 on my hip and my .44 Remington magnum on my lap. "There's so many rounds that are far better choices for self defense, why the 44 mag, Big Country?"

Well, let's say this piece of shite happens upon my property. I'm almost certain he's going to shite himself when he sees a 6', 290 lb man stand up in his running boots with a 10-12 inch piece of steel, loaded with 300 gr hollow points.
I have no intent to shoot him unless he's in my fricking house, but when I run his arse down, I want to ask him if he feels lucky

Me and taxis went back and forth with this before.

Ill take heavy for caliber bullets at modest speed with modest expansion and 100% exits. I just send it through the shoulder joints if I want a bang flop. Rarely do I put the dog on a deer that was hit well and has two holes. He finds plenty with no exits.

That's why I got away from the ballistic tips when I was hunting swamp. If they ran 40-50 yards with no exit wound they were a pita to find in a sea of palmettos.

It was quite random.

Still waiting for my daughter to pop one with these reduced recoil loads from her 7mm-08. I'm interested to see if it transfers enough energy to kill.

This is why I shoot slow, heavy shotgun loads

I like extremely fast frag rounds.

Why?

I want him dead. It takes basically one minute to bleed if you hit heart.

Short of face, spine, or liver, there aren't any one hit stops on meth fueled idiots.

95 grain 9mm and 19 rounds.

For those getting ready to say they have poor penetration, they penetrate to over 90% of what a .45 fmj did in ballistic gel and the water test. With a smaller main channel, but with almost a dozen smaller wound channels.

Liberty defense makes a 50 grain 9mm round at 2,000 fps and a .45 acp 78 grainer at 1,900. I bet those would be nasty

No offense, but use of that ammo for self defense is discouraged by virtually every top-tier defensive handgun trainer on this planet.

Everyone I know who tracks deer does also.

People like them because you get some really spectacular kills. Liquified internals and instant kills are common. The problem is the first time you judge the angle wrong or drop the bullet square on shoulder bone you have potential for no blood and no deer.

Heavier bullets at reasonable speeds are much more reliable in my experience. They'll run off more often and the results aren't as incredible, but they leave more margin.

I had to shoot a 170lb deer at 5 yards with a .308 today after my dog caught it. I'm glad I didn't have lightning rod bullets.

What dog do you trail with. My lab would never catch. She'd watch it run away and start trailing

Lab/bloodhound mix.

He's been doing this for 7 years now. He only grabs them if they're pretty bad off and trying to run. Otherwise he just bays them.
