Henry AR-7 .22 take down rifle,anybody have one? Update,I bought it.

How do you like it? Is it accurate at all? Dependable?

Long time ago had the armalite version. It was a PoS. Accurate when it would go off but the action was very unreliable. Small sample size though. Don't know if Henry version is better or worse.

yeah,it's small and only weighs 3.5 pounds.Thinking about trying one.

Ruger makes a 10/22 takedown, I would check that out too if you haven't seen it.

well, I already have a browning take down .22,but it is too nice of a weapon to just leave laying around.
I can pick up an almost new AR-7 for about 150 bucks,and not have to care about it much. The barrel is actually plastic coated outside.

For $150, you can't go wrong I guess. Having a plastic coated barrel doesn't exactly instill confidence, but Henry is supposed to make good stuff, so why not.

I was in the market for one when Ruger dropped the takedown 10/22.
I see it as a niche product, though. If you had the specific need for the way it's stored - canoeing or rafting as part of the team gear package or whatever, but I think it's largely rendered obsolete by the takedown 10/22.

yeah, I wanted to keep it in the toolbox of my truck,thought it might be good for that.

From my research, the weight is off (the empty stock is too light and doesn't balance the front of the gun) and that makes it not a good or fun plinker. It is accurate enough for most reviewer's taste, but the factory magazines cannot be considered "depend on your life" reliable or anything approaching that.
With those caveats, it might be the answer for you. You can get 1 1/2 to 2 of them for the price of a takedown 10/22.

Henry's website mentioned that the magazines have an issue when they get worn.
I watched a video,and the guy said he put 300 rounds through a new one without a single issue,but was hoping to get the real story,from somebody that owns one. I don't expect it to be super accurate,just reasonably so.

I am very impressed with it. Me and my uncle shot about 50 rounds through it this afternoon, it actually was keeping very tight groups at 40 yards. gonna have to shave the front sight blade down some,but it's going to be pretty accurate when I am done. My uncle is going to buy one tomorrow,he loved it.
It's a cool little gun,and came with 2 HENRY stickers in the box.

Welcome.My aunt even shot it and had a decent 3 round group. She hasn't fired a weapon in 30 years.She loved it too.

I've often heard it called a great value. Like I said earlier in the thread, I was researching these roughly the time when the 10/22 Takedown was becoming widely available. I may end up with 1 yet, for a wet camp or boating situation.
The only real knock on it, from my research is the magazines and the balance on the weight. Otherwise, most folks are like you and your uncle - they like it for what it is.

I can see where the weight could be a slight issue,but if needed,you could weight the stock a little,when the rifle is assembled. Maybe some heavy washers or something,in a plastic bag.
