That would be lovely, but highly doubt it goes anywhere.

Was just about to post this. Supressors should be considered safety devices imo. Even countries that have the worst gun control do not regulate supressors. Although I am not optomistic that this will pass, I will definitely call reps and sign whatever needs to be signed.

I just waited 4 fricking months and spent $200

If you frickers want anything legalized quickly just let me buy it. I buy a CC permit and they offer lifetime 1 month later.

If you're pissed, imagine if they took machine guns off of NFA registry...those people who spent $20k on a pre '86 would be livid.

I think this is part of the reason you will never see this happen.

However, I own 4 suppressors and support this bill 100%. It would be interesting to see what this would do to the suppressor market. In Europe they are required to shoot so they are cheap and don't last very long.

I hope this would lead to SBRs being taken off. Even if we never get machine guns off, I would be pretty happy with removal of SBS, SBR, and AOW along with supressors.

I'm hopeful of that as well. I will be getting an SBR shortly after they are removed, not that I won't get one if they aren't removed.

FWIW the lifetime permit is not something many instructors recommend.

1. You prepay for 20 years (5x the price = $500) for the lifetime permit.

2. You are still required to show proof of training every 5 years for it to stay active. So this means you still have to pay for the classes just not the government for the permit.

3. The lines of reciprocity become heavily blurred once you get past that first 5 year period.

4. You also won't be able to use your permit as your background check when purchasing a firearm. A law was passed recently that allows you to use your CC permit rather than having to call the NICS. Not sure if it's active everywhere though.

5. I believe Louisiana will have Constitutional Carry within 10 years.

I doubt that SBRs will ever be taken off. The argument that SBRs make rifles more concealable would pretty much shut that down. I hope they pass the suppressor bill though. The only reason they are a NFA item is because of movies. If everyone knew how they really sound I don't think it would be an issue.

Couldn't you integrate the suppressor onto the barrel and really negate the need for a SBR? You are looking at at least 6-7" for a 223 supressor. Instead of a 10.5" SBR with a 6-7" supressor you would have a 16" long barrel with the last 6-7" of the barrel ported for suppressor and the whole can would slip over the last 6-7" of the barrel.

They have integral suppressors for sale. You could also just get a suppressor pinned and welded to a barrel and only pay the stamp for the suppressor. See the Daniel Defense ISR for example.

You fail to mention what i believe to be a great benefit of the lifetime permit (same goes for hunting and fishing licenses). You are protected from being "priced out". Sure, it currently takes 20 years to pay off, but what happens in 5 years if they triple the cost of the permit?

Right now because of the economics and legalities of it that how most people do it. But I imagine the volume of Suppressor sales will go through the roof if this passes and they will get much cheaper, cheap enough to get one per firearm that you want to use it on.
