Fish the end of the river the furthest away from Big Cajun... there are some shallow water structures that hold lots of baitfish and bass.... there is also a large cut with a drainage pipe around near the highway that holds stripers

I haven't seen the stripers schooling in awhile. There used to be a butt load of them I'm sure there still around though. It might be a little on the windy side tomorrow you might want to fish the bayou on the south end if it's not too muddy from the rain. The lakes not what it used to be, but it's not half as bad as a lot of people make it out to be.

The fall is the best time to fish there due to the lack of recreational boat traffic

There's always boat traffic I saw somebody wake boarding in a wet suit two weeks ago. lol Heck I have seen people skiing in wet suits in December also. The best time to fish there is at night.

You can catch fish there. I don't know about the stripers though. I would fish the canal on the south end. Especially going into the canal. Start on the left by the old pier and fish all the way to the boathouse. After that it is super shallow and I skip it. Then troll straight and fish at the corner of the property on the right after the intersection towards the bridge. There is sunken timber there and you should be able to see it. Troll to the bridge and try a jerk bait or crank bait under the bridge. Hit a 180 and take a left at the intersection and fish that stretch. If you can get in the river itself try the piers where you don't see and swimming platforms. Most people have trees sunk in front of them. Hit every ladder you see and if you can skip a jig, get way under the docks.

I haven't fished there in about a year but that was how I started my trips before I leard some areas. If you have electronics you can find what you want to see in the river if the wind will allow you to fish it. Good luck!

The canals will be very muddy. We had 2"-3" of rain yesterday.

With a good sounder, try finding some brush in 8'-12' of water.

Yes, till I moved in '98 used to fish the Friday night "Cookie Jar" out of Bonaventure's think it was 7-1 and $20/boat. Wore em out at night: big black spinnerbait, black/red Sparkle 10" GillRaker worm.

There were some isolated piers that were ridiculously good......then you'd also have a stretch of 10-15. Finding those brushpiles was the key.

Miss those days for sure.

It's my home lake so I'll help where I can.

It's not my favorite place to fish, but I've fished it more than any other body of water since it's in the back yard. People familiar with False River can really do well fishing the lake. Those who haven't been or aren't particularly good bass fisherman will struggle.

First advice I'd give is stay out of the canal. If the wind is so bad you can't fish the lake then give it a shot, but the lake is your best bet.

Second, I'd stay away from fishing piers on the extreme ends on the "island" side of the lake. These piers get really shallow pretty quick. The fish are moving shallow and probably getting on the beds, but you'll limit yourself if your aren't fishing some of the deeper structures available. Also don't feel the need to run the boat.. If you're launching from Morels or Satterfields, just start fishing.

Third, as far as bait selection... I have my favorites, but I'd fish natural color plastics. Green pumpkin trick worm is my go to on just about any lake, but you can throw just about any plastic you feel comfortable with. I'd start early morning throwing a spinner bait or top water from the banks to the end of the piers and all around em. You can move quick and fish alot of piers. This would be a good time to locate some that have Christmas trees or other brush sunk. Mark em and keep moving.

I tend to move quick early on and then slow it down after the sun comes up. You need to be able to get your bait up and under the docks..it'll increase you're bite ratio ALOT. After the early morning bite slows, remember to keep some sort of action bait at the ready. I've caught more fish on let's say a crankbait I had laying around. Pick it to make to casts along the sides of docks and ladders(find a long stretch where you can bounce it off multiple poles)..then wham a bite.

The lake is an oxbow so you'll be able to escape some of the wind with good positioning. Good luck, I know this is all pretty vague, but it may help a bit..

Canal was muddy. Fished the drain and piers close by. Wind was mot bad in that area. Caught nuthin. I think the front that came through yesterday doomed my chances. Lake was off color. Not that dark black water i remember from many yrs ago. Thnx for the help guys.

Just because it's muddy doesn't mean they won't bite or left. I've caught 18lbs out of there when it looked like chocolate milk. The high pressure is more of a killer than muddy water.
