Headed to Des Allmendes for the first time Sunday, a quick question

I am going to try Des Allmendes for the first time this weekend. I have never been there before, but from reading/looking at maps, my plan was to launch from under the 90 bridge, head towards lake des allmendes, but go into the canals on the right (humble canal?) and slowly go through there fishing in the canals first. After that would head into the lake and try my luck.
I am really only interested in catching bass -- does my plan sound reasonable? I am not asking for specific locations, but I don't want the trip to be a total waste.
Also, do most people go slow through humble canal or are people going to be speeding through there? It looks wide enough in the main part but narrow in the offshoots.

Go to Franks and get a bloody mary. That's my suggestion.

Fish the launch canal. There's a tourney out there Saturday, and all the fish will be released right there at the launch. My wife caught a 3#er in there this past weekend on a freaking cork and mini-jig.
There was a grass float stretched all the way across Humble this past weekend. If it's still there, you can get past it on either side, just watch for the cypress knees. Most people run Humble. They sprayed back there a few months back and to me, the bass fishing hasn't been the same
We tried going around the cypress in the lake, but it was windy as hell and i wasn't sure about it. I threw topwater and pitched a little, but came up dry.
If anything, i'd head towards Temple Bay. You may not catch size, but you'll catch. It's been on the last month or so.

I won a tourney years ago fishing about 400 yards from somme's launch...

Thanks Black,
So with Humble, do people run to whichever "cut" (I am not sure what the right word would be), and then go slow/troll through there? Would be rude to run through those small off shoots.
The cypress on the lake is actually what I had read is good for bass so that kind of sucks.
As far as the tourney, they will release right by the public launch? I might have to try that out, I catch and release anyway so might be fun to catch a couple before running.
Thanks for the help so far!

The lake itself is not the best for bass. The water is algae green right now and really hot. Stay round where the bayous empty into the lake with some good water.

Another option is to run up into bayou beouf.

Interesting, looking at the map and reading the replies it seems maybe Temple Bayou is the better choice for now?
Do people generally fish in the bayou on the way out there or just make a straight run until you are in temple?

i think they are talking about temple bay.
other side the point in lake salvador.
Miss the redfishing we used to have by the wellheads in the center of the lake. use to have 200 fish days

Yes temple bay sorry. I see it on Google Maps. I think I will head there. I might fish along the way though unless there are too many boats going by and I am getting in the way and their wake is messing up the fishing.

Depending on the size of the cut, and if anyone is fishing them, depends on if i run them or not.

right there off the dock. The launch canal is lined with concrete...those bass will probably hold up on this before heading out to deeper water

I forgot about the algae bloom. It's rampant. Main thing is to look for either moving water, grass, or something deep.

Is the bass fishing around the cypress in the lake ever good? While i know bass will hold around the cypress, something about fishing in there isn't convincing to me.

Its really just too shallow. I've caught bass in the trees but they are few and far between.
Mouth of Pleasure Bend, Bayou Bouef, Bayou Chevreuil, Providence Canal & Humble can all be good right now, but its an early bite.

Haven't fished there in a couple years, but we always launch at the 90 bridge and run down towards Lake Salvador. The last two canals on the left before you reach the lake have some camps on the corner with deep enough, and usually moving water to stay cool. One of the camps has corrugated metal as a wave break against the water, and it always seems to be good for a 3#er if you run a lunker lure along bumping into the metal.
