Hackberry Kayak Fishing Spots

I am new to kayak fishing and have never fished the Hackberry/Big Lake area before. I plan on going this weekend and would appreciate some guidance on a few spots to hit for reds and specks and also some places to put in. I am not asking for specific "holes" but more or less a general area where to fish that's easy to get to by kayak. TIA.

I launched at Spicer's on Saturday on a power boat, fished all day with not much to show. Not sure of the names of the lakes we fished, but they were probably 2-3 miles south of Spicer's and not a single speck was caught, used live shrimp and artificials of all kinds. Ended up with a flounder and a few black drum with lots of cats and croakers mixed in.
This was only my second time there and hopefully am not giving up any secret spots BUT i think the small marsh by Spicer's has a lot of potential for kayak fishing, most of it is too shallow for real boats. We pulled 3 nice reds out of 1 small area in a last ditch effort to save the day
Anyway, i was going to give it a shot sometime soon, just based on how untouched it is by the power boats.

Choupique Bayou, north of the intracoastal has a kayak launch, and you can fish upstream or downstream if the water isn't too muddy. You can also cross from the Intracoastal Launch under the Ellender Bridge an get to broken marsh around Choupique Bayou. You can launch at Spicers and fish the marsh between there and the ship channel, but it gets really shallow at low tide. I've paddled up the ship channel and thru Texaco cut to get into the lake from Spicers. You can also go west under the road and towards Black Lake and fish the bayous and pipeline canals that way. You can also launch at Joe's landing south of Hackberry and fish the rocks along the ship channel or the marsh back there. I would check the wind first, as reports have that place looking like chocolate milk. Consider going further shouth to Hog Island gully or West Cove, and staying in the marsh.

Wherever you decide to go down there, don't eat a fish, crab, skrimp, or oyster from west of the Hwy. Don't ask me why, just please trust me.

Thanks, I used to check reports there a while back, but haven't visited the site in a while. I will check out what they have regarding kayak fishing.

yes, i once ate some bad raw oysters from around Pointe au Chien, so I understand what you are saying. I think boiling the crabs and shrimp would take care of that issue though.
